I have to agree with you on this, the idea that evil spirits inhabit mentally ill or criminal minds is very archaic. CAN these people be inhabited by evil spirits? Certainly, as can police officers, doctors, waitresses, etc... Evil spirits cannot enter anyone without that person being open to them.
I worked in a federal prison for a while, and the closest I ever came to feeling a "spirit" of any kind was around the holidays, and then it was the the "spirit" of depression that I felt.
Admittedly, I wasn't working around serial killers, but there were very bad men there, and that is exactly what they were "bad men", men who had decided to give into their basest impulses and indulge in bad behavior.
Some folks are more "aware" of spirits than others. I don't think it necessarily means they are more spiritual, just some or more aware.
I have talked to men that have gone to the prisons that have discovered they had spirits trailing them. They had to learn to pray over themselves when they left. They first discovered this when they found themselves auguring with their family members when that was not their nature to do that. That is just one example.

Sister, I understand where you are coming from, and I respect your viewpoint.
I just disagree with the concept of spirits trailing after people, I do not find it to be biblical. I have been around and heard a lot stories dealing with possession and spirits, but for me, stories and recountings do not add up to evidence.
I believe that there are evil spirits at work in the world, and I have had a few experiences in my life where I believe they were at work. However, I do believe that the much more prevelant problem in our society is man's spirit. Much of which gets attributed to "evil spirits" is in fact our own corrupt human nature at work.

Don't know why? If enough folks have the same story seems logical to me there is something to it. I can eat peanuts and feel fine. Hard to imagine someone else can eat them and die. But there have been enough to make it believable for ME.

There are BOTH to deal with. The hardest being man's spirit. Evil spirits you have authority to cast out, but not human.

As to having Biblical evidence for EVERYTHING we experience in life is impossible. Yet, talk to people that have experienced things not listed in the scriptures, they KNOW what they have experienced.
I have heard many ministers say they have prayed for a possessed person that was in a mental instutition and when delivered their minds returned to them as well.
I have to totally agree here! I have seen first hand many accounts of this same Esther. In the halfway house we worked in..all very obviously possessed. I know of 4 who were there only (more in other places too) and they were so beyond gone mentally... but after these people were delivered and filled with the holy ghost they were totally different people.. in their right minds... Now living on their own working and living productive lives... as if they never had the prior problems at all!

I don't doubt that at all. The Gaderene man had his mind restored when Jesus delivered him.
I wish all that are bound could be delivered. I fear we are not as Apostolic as we wish or claim to be. Paul had a women following him around revealing who he was, due to his Apostolic life he was more than able to deliver her whether she wanted to be or not!

As I said, I agree that it's just as possible for people who are mentally ill to be possessed just as much as I agree that people with cancer can also be possessed. I also believe experiences people have are their own, with or without Biblical proof, but that's not what I was addressing in your post.
I have heard of people healed from cancer after being delivered from demons. My mother witnessed one such person vomiting up a hairy looking blob when having demons cast out. Her cancer was cured that moment.
But this is my point....I don't avoid people with cancer just in case they have spirits attached to them, nor do I feel that my odd behavior might be caused by spirits attaching themselves to me because I work around sick people.
Demons are everywhere. If they wanted to attach themselves to your friend (and I don't mean to sound offensive here, so please don't read this post in that tone), they had plenty of opportunity everytime she went to the grocery store, the bank, a restaurant, and even to church. Working in a mental hospital doesn't make someone more apt to have spirits attach themselves to a person.

I agree the same thing about the cancer. Have heard that as well.
True about demons are everywhere, but more so in certain places. IMO

I agree, and I also don't believe that those spirits would, or even could, follow a person with the Holy Ghost.
But you are correct. We are human, and act as such. Sometimes we give the devil too much credit.
