The older I get, the more I appreciate teaching, and the more I love to teach.

I am even getting old enough that some men are asking me to come and teach rather than preach...LOL

You won't know this preacher. He was my first pastor at a UPC fellowship in Oxford, England. He lives in South Carolina now and does prison ministry. His name is David Hinton. He is the best teacher I have ever had in the Lord. He stressed taking the word as it's written and not to add nor take away from it. Not only did he teach doctrine but he led by example a Christian life. He's not famous and maybe never will be but he is the epitome of what a Christian should be and an excellent teacher as well. He is without a doubt the humblest person I know. When I'm going through trials the scriptures he taught over and over come to me and comfort me. He helped me to become rooted and grounded in the truth of the word of God.

What is the difference between teaching and preaching? Does the bible clearly define two speaking styles? Personally, I don't think it does.

Biblical preaching is a simple "telling" of the gospel message.

I really can't imagine Jesus standing on the hillside, face red, veins bulging, screaming at the top of his lungs.

John the Baptist was a preacher, Jesus was the teacher.

One leads you to Christ.

The other tells you who he is!

Neckstadt, how did you develop this line of thinking?

Eddie is a teacher more than a preacher, so he never really fit into that mold. He never gets loud, but the words he delivers are powerful and anointed and life changing. I think there is room for both in the body of Christ, but it seems like preaching way overshadows teaching in OP ranks.
Thanks for sharing that....

I remember back at JCM responding numerous times to the "Do you feel called to preach" question.... my response was always "Nope. I feel called to teach! And it's my hope that five years from now that I'm known more as a teacher than a preacher...." You would've been humored at all the weird looks I got....

Since then God has allowed me the opportunity at a few different cool things.... as of most recent, I've gotten the chance to teach the last 75+ weeks a Sunday morning adult SS class (45 minutes of teaching a clip).... next week, I'll be starting a new 12-week series on the book of Jonah....

God has been kind to me....
