Re: What Would You Do?
Back in the day, it was a disgrace to not take care of Grammaw and Pawpaw in their old age. And most old folks grew old in the house surrounded by family.
Nowadays, there's no shame in it at all. We even have a multi billion dollar industry dedicated to relieving children of their duty to honour their parents...

Today, there's no shame attached to having a child out of wedlock. And mysteriously, there's an epidemic of children being born out of wedlock.
What's even more mysterious is how many folks can't figure out the "mystery".

I care to differ. People were more hush, hush about it. There were just more secret sending of expectant mothers away, adoptions, abortions, and shotgun weddings.
People haven't changed. Things are just more out in the open.

So, we punish the child for the sins of the parents? Or did that end in the OT?

I never said illegitimate births didn't happen. But not to the extent they do now.
Shotgun weddings are entirely Biblical. You play, you pay.

I'm saying that in a population of 300 million people, with instant information on social media, women working and highly visible in society, it's just more out in the open today. It was largely hidden in days gone by. Incest was hidden, physical abuse was hidden, and pregnancy out of wedlock was hidden. Those few cases that couldn't be hidden might give one the idea that it happened a lot less. But, in reality, I'm certain it was not much unlike it is today per capita. Maybe a little less. But not enough to want those glory days of hidden abuse.

Very little as it relates to this context.

Whenever she goes to church she is greeted with open arms.
I do not live close by, but many of her cousins attend the church.
Her parents are still in church in another city.
This gets back to one of my pet peeves, which is that you as a parent need to realize that your most important task is that your children be saved!
Her brother is also a disaster.
I saw it coming when they were being raised, but their mom did not want to hear my concerns.

Actually.. the opposite. I am saying one sin is as the others. It is funny to watch the classic cherrypicking of VISUAL sins to rail against and make a firm stand, draw a line in the sand etc etc etc
