Re: Nate Silver: Trump 57.5% Chance of Winning

JD - I did not vote for Trump. But dismissing the ones that did so as scared and bigoted makes you just the way you claim they are.
Go read this article for a different slant on why people are voting for Trump.

Unlike Boyarsky, most of Stern’s charges chose Trump (D). You went with Trump, Stern told students, despite all his outrageous statements and lack of qualifications, because of the Supreme Court, party loyalty and dislike of the opposition. “People keep asking, ‘How can anybody vote for Trump?’” Stern added. “I say, ‘You just did.’”

Re: Nate Silver: Trump 57.5% Chance of Winning

At one point during the primary season, there appeared to be a contest over who could say the most horrible stuff.

I stand by what I said by Trump winning primaries by playing on prejudice and fear. I add to it this: educated and not-so-educated people supported him due to his playing on the fears and prejudices of many Americans.

Yep. People heard "wall" and "deportation" over and over and that's what they want. Conservative radio and FoxNews also helped Trump with millions of free advertising.

Re: Nate Silver: Trump 57.5% Chance of Winning

It's easy to dismiss Trump supporters as simply supporting him because of stereotypes and fear mongering. The truth is Obama's eight years of transforming America into more of a European socialist state has been an awful experiment. The Democrats are the ones who are filled with fear. They are the ones who inject race into everything. Trump supporters are sick of liberalism and lawlessness. They are tired of weak leadership at home and abroad. They are weary of career politicians and the deep corruption that they embrace.

Almost 100% of the time when someone cries "racist" it's evidence that they are losing in the arena of ideas.

Many of us are tired of Obama, but that didn't drive us to support Trump.

What is sad is that this should be a slam dunk election against one of the worst candidates the Democrats have ever run. Unfortunately the Republican Party abandoned Reagan conservatism a long time ago, like around 1988. We had a flash of the glory days of Reagan with Newt Gingrich and the Republican revolution of 1994. But really the GOP is not much better, maybe slightly, and the Democratic Party. Ever since Reagan, we have had to deal with candidates like Dole, McCain, and Romney. George HW bush and George W. Bush were marginally better, conservative enough to win some elections, but ultimately did not embrace the conservatism of Ronald Reagan.

The field of 17 candidates running for the GOP nomination failed to offer a really good candidate to run against Hillary. Excuses can be made and blame can be assigned but ultimately conservatives failed to win the nomination. Donald Trump, as unconventional as he is, and certainly lacking conservative credentials, at least knew what significant numbers of Americans cared about. Talked about America first, our immigration problems, the anemic economy, national security in ways the others weren't.

Conservatives only have themselves to blame.
