Re: Sit Down and Behave Yourself!

Not speaking against human exuberance, but I want more than human exuberance.

Our churches need more than human exuberance, though it wouldn't hurt any church to have believers who are demonstrably exuberant over the Grace of GOD.

We need the Holy Spirit to manifest Himself so strongly in our services, that it can't be mistaken for human exuberance only.

I want sick Christians to be healed in our services, by the POWER of teh Holy Spirit!

I want the Holy Spirit to grab the hearts of the reserved Christians, leading them to become undignified in their praise and worship to GOD!

I want the Holy Spirit to grab the attention of the hypocrite-- broken hearts and broken wills offered to the Lord with the tears of chain-breaking repentance!

I want the prophetic word that convinces the sinner and tongues of fire to set upon our house of worship!

I want the times of refreshing to flood our services, flood our services, flood our services!

OH GOD! Let Your Will be done-- pouring out Your Holy Spirit upon all flesh!

Give us a stronger resolve to see Your Glory in our gatherings and in our lives!

Give me an unquenchable thirst for Your Presence, for Your Glory to be made manifest in our services!

Save the church goers! Encourage the hearts of Your believers! Disturb our churchianity with the POWER of the Holy Ghost!

We NEED Your POWER LORD!

We NEED You JESUS!

Oh GOD we NEED YOU!

Heavenly Father, pour out Your Holy Spirit on us!

Pour out Your Holy Spirit!

POUR OUT Your Holy Spirit!

JESUS MOVE in our services today!

JESUS WE NEED YOU!

OH GOD POUR OUT Your Holy SPirit!

Like on the Day of Pentecost-- only better!

Consume Your people with desire for You!

Consume me with desire for You!

More than sex, more than porn, more than money, more than stability, more than a wife, more than a nice house, more than a nice car, more than a succesful business, more than children, more than EVERYTHING OH GOD I want YOU MORE!

Help me to want You more than EVERYTHING else!

OH GOD!

JESUS!!!!

We need YOU! OH GOD!

WE NEED YOU!

I need Your wisdom and balance so that I can seek Your Face and still do what is necessary for life in this world.

Father hear this prayer. Show me my errors and bless me with wisdom beyond my years, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Not my reason. I have experienced the real deal and I have experienced hype. Some, most don't know the difference.

Re: Sit Down and Behave Yourself!

I will say I don't find this kind of thing appealing. Not judging them, but I feel just as comfortable (perhaps more to be honest) at the Lutheran Church when they offer the sacrament. I believe folks might experience God at both, but they are also both a bit outside of my experience. I am OK until someone starts adding pressure or condemning those who don't experience God exactly like they do.

Was there a dry eye in the Upper Room on the Day of Pentecost?

Was there a quiet corner for the reserved saints to experience God without wrinkling their robes?

Why is the word for the Holy Spirit in Greek associated with dynamite-- is it by chance or is it by design?

There is value in the quiet times.

There is value in the roar of worship from the hearts of true believers in Jesus Christ.

There is value in the dancing of the redeemed Christian.

There is value in the leaping of the discouraged Christian.

There is value in the joy displayed when one runs the aisles in praise to God.

Biblical praise MUST be demonstrated.

Yes, we have to do something.

In the course of offering up a sacrifice of praise, we may have to praise God when we don't feel like praising God. How else would it be a sacrifice?

Christians must praise God.

There is a difference between putting on a show, sincere human exuberance, and the supernatural moving of the Holy Spirit.

Re: Sit Down and Behave Yourself!

does not God inhabit the praises of his people? as many things we can find in scripture to support lifting of hands, shouting, clapping dancing, singing

Ah, but is it important to know the difference? If so, then what *IS* the difference? Are worshippers supposed to know (or even care) whether case A (sincere human effort) or case B (supernatural moving) is occuring?

Not everything is worship. Some of it is emotional reactions. The bible calls that "rejoicing"

Except that you labled it hysteria? Seems contradictory
Prax, it is hysteria but it is controlled. People like to get right on the edge. It releases chemicals in the brain that give a sort of high that is very addicting.

Why do people ride roller coasters and scream their heads off or watch horror movies that get their blood pumping?

It is all for the thrill. Just listen to the music and the way they pump the crowd up and chant the same words over and over with a frenzy beat.

Back when I was UPC we called worship like this "slot-machine" worship. People would just show up waiting for the explosion and it didn't have to happen every service but as long as we had a blow out service every once in a while the folks would keep coming. Now, on Sunday morning, people wouldn't behave that way and would talk in the lobby and show up late. But on Sunday night they would show up ready to break loose.
