I remember when I applied for license with the ALJC.
That was back in the nineteen seventies.
I was a sectional youth leader, filling in after someone had left.
One time at a youth rally, before the service I was called to a meeting in the church basement.
The District Superintendent was there and so was my pastor (who usually didn't go to youth rallies) and it was at the sectional presbyer's church so he was there. There were also a couple of other ministers. I thought maybe I was in trouble. They asked me if I was interested in continuing on as sectional youth leader and said that if I was I would have to take out license because that was a requirement. I didn't even know that but I agreed to go ahead and take out license if I was voted in. Well, I got the job and filled out my application. I don't remember what the dues were but I think back then it was just one annual fee --I may be wrong about that. I asked my pastor if I could take my dues out of my tithes and he agreed. The grandson of the district presbyter was there and he asked his grandfather (who was also his pastor) if he could take his dues out of his tithes and he was told "no" because the tithe goes to the pastor.
