My BIL has a common law wife. No comments on that, except, glad I don't see them very often.

I thought it was after 6 months you were considered common law in Texas.

My grandmother was common law married to her second husband, my step granddad, here in Ohio. They never had a formal "marriage", "marriage license", or "marriage certificate". Yet legally she was entitled to his estate as his "wife" and "widow".

Marriage is obviously a personal and complex issue.

Brother,

Warren Jeffs is in prison as an accessory to rape. He wasn't anywhere around when the rape occurred but was involved, indicted and incarcerated!

Right so after we ran the gamut - it would have been better to have left them alone.

They believe what they believe and that's it. Even after persecuting the ones that engaged with minors they would still do it again, I'm thinking.

Okay, Newman!

He wasn't prosecuted because he believed in polygamy or lived with multiple women. He was prosecuted for sodomizing young boys, sexual misconduct with a minor, and coercing and threatening young girls into these "spiritual marriages" and teaching that it's right to do so.

Newman and Christopher,

What else could Texas have done?
At what point did they err.

I believe he's in prison only for the last charge You listed.
Which is what he has done with the women in Eldorado.

Hahaha Were you surprised to find me defending polygamists given my reputation as a feminist among some on this forum?

I'm not absolutely sure if they erred. I can see how they felt the need to round up the entire community to find those who broke the law with minors. The question will be how do they treat those who are not guilty of any crime? Will they allow them to just go home or will they try to "re-educate" or break them up over their religious beliefs?
