It is very portable and the new ones are designed to flip screen full 360 degrees making it like a tablet. They seem to be a good buy for the money imo.
I need something that will handle more than one user.
Since the family will be using it for whatever they need to do.
I never shut my computer off, because I was told not to do that. I was told it was better for the computer to leave it running. I don’t know if that is a true or false.

I hope you at least had a small fan blowing air onto the tower all these years.

The PC I am using, and always use, is a HP Desktop. It is over 10 years old. Works just as good now as it did when I purchased it. Costs have come down, power and software have gone up. For design, features, affordability, duration, and operation, it's hard to beat an HP.

Their laptops are great, too. We own two.

I’m going to open it up tonight and see if I need to clean it.

10 years and still works like new? Awesome. I like the sounds of that.

Any PC or laptop that overheats will not run well. If you hear the fan constantly running, it's likely the innards of the computer are coated with dust. Be careful when opening. Make sure you ground yourself before touching any metal inside of the computer. Use canned air to clean.

Otherwise, if you could list off the issues, maybe someone here can diagnosis and assist with a fix?

Symptoms: Doesn't work.
Problem: Windoze.
Solution: BBQ and meet the neighbors, maybe consider Linux.

Ground yourself? Why not unplug the unit? Does it still hold its voltage? Even when unplugged?

You may have a build up of static electricity on you that needs to be discharged prior to handling the insides of a computer.
