I can imagine what would happen if the UPC adopted the "standards" that the Mormons do -which is basically moderation in all things. For the most part they are extremely friendly, healthy (because they teach healthy living -there are VERY few overweight Mormons and most women who have 4-7 kids under their belts look like they were never pregnant once!), and usually well off financially (moderation in spending!).

Santa is a tradition that goes back to celebrating the generosity of St. Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra.
Stockings, allegedly Nicholas helped a poor family by slipping in their window and dropping gold in their stockings which were hung by a fire to dry.
After Nicholas' death, some Christians in Myra continued to give to those in need in the name of Nicholas. This tradition took hold in every community where the story of Nicholas was told. Upon making Nicholas a Saint (many miracles were attributed to him), the church established December 6th as his feast day. Eventually the feast of St. Nicholas became observed with Christ's Mass (Christmas) on December 25th.
All distinctly Christian traditions.

As for December 25th being celebrated as Christ's birth... that's a Messianic tradition based on the ancient doctrine of Integral Age - a theory that all true prophets, including the Messiah, died on the same day as their conception. Nine months after Good Friday on the ancient calendar is...December 25th. Celebrating Christ's birth on this date goes back to Jewish Christians in the second century, long before the pagan REVIVAL of the pagan celebration of Saturnalia. Pagans tried to hijack this date to combat the spread of Christianity. Christianity didn't borrow the date from pagans.
So celebrating Christ's birth on December 25th is distinctly a Messianic Christian tradition, NOT a pagan tradition.
