Put yourself in the shoes of airport security.

Put yourself in the shoes of someone who follows the law and doesn't become a law unto themselves and detain people illegally and trample on peoples constitutional and God given rights simply because they "see the individual as suspect."
It is not within their realm of authority to do so and one should only operate within the realm of their authority.
That is why racial profiling is wrong.
Because somebody wears baggy pants and has dreadlocks you can't just "see them as suspect". A person is innocent until proven guilty. They can look as suspect as they want to. Looking suspect isn't a crime.
People who lean on street corners "look suspect".
People who drive around town in continuous loops "look suspect".
Looking suspect cannot, is not, will never be a good measure for legal detainment.

No we can go listen to gov Blagovech (former) from Illinois cussing on the phone and we can read mayor Kiwannaaii from detroit text his woman.

Actually, I don't know the ins and outs on videoing and recording in law enforcement. Police cars have video, things are recorded during interrogation, etc.
So, what is the law or requirement for government offices on this?

I understand that there might be little he could do, I'm sure he could have wired the money to his bank account or something. Anyway, I've traveled outside of the country and I would have called the airport a head of time and let them know I was carrying that much cash. I would have also have expected a little bit of having to answer for it.
A delay or temporary detainment without charges until one is cleared of any wrong doing after becoming suspect isn't an infringement on Constitutional rights.
Put yourself in the shoes of law enforcement and airport police and safety officials. Do you want international money launderers, drug dealers, arms dealers, and terrorists caught? I do.
This guy's just grumpy. If you don't want to wake the tiger...don't step on it's tail.

I think you are right. He should have wired the money. That's just weird he would carry a box of money on him like that. It does seem suspect.

I think this is a great point, but basing that assumption on carrying cash alone, I'm just having trouble understanding. I know 4k may seem like a lot of money but when you are traveling it really is not.
This is still a very good point though.

My friend, it is IMO this kind of mindset that is allowing our freedoms to be taken away. There is NO LAW that prevents one from carry cash in any amount while traveling regardless of the method of travel. The only time you are "required" to "declare" how much and why is when you are traveling internationally, and then only if it exceeds $10,000.00 US.
He broke no laws, there was nothing to be enforced and this is NOT how it is supposed to be done!
Airport security had no right, reason, or justification to even question him as to the origin or purpose of said monies.

Re: Harrassed & Detained For Carrying Cash @ Airpo
Good grief! One time we carried $22,000 in cash to Kenya, because we knew we had to buy a vehicle for our head pastor over there. That was the same year I carried a bunch of bulk Splenda to the missionaries in Nairobi. Good thing I didn't put it in baggies!
