? how so? i heard his comments, there was nothing in what he said that suggested the police were going to somehow use their position to harm those that voted for Obama.
All he did was introduce Palin.
Im not following your logic here....
Did you feel strongly about the group of law inforcement officials in Missouri who have said they would procecute anyone running an ad on TV that wasnt "truthful"?
by the way that group of law enforcment officials goes by the name Obama supporters for Truth or some such.
My understanding of all the flack is that he was at this rally, speaking in an official capacity as the Sheriff of Lee County, FL, in uniform.
That IS against the law and is the reason for the investigation.
The use of "Hussein" in this country conjures up very negative images. So whenever anyone uses his name, MOST OF THE TIME, they are using that name to inspire the negativity associated with it.
So that was the icing on the cake for this Sheriff. But where he messed up is appearing at a political rally, in uniform, in an official capacity as the Sheriff.
This is clearly unethical.

Looks like there's not a problem at all with him introducing McCain. The complaints are that he said "On November 4, let's leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened"
This is where that Sheriff messed up. In an official capacity, introduced as the Sheriff, spoke as the Sheriff, while in uniform-- maybe he was even on the clock.
UNETHICAL!

FORT MYERS: The phone lines lit up at the Lee County Sheriff's Office this morning after Sheriff Mike Scott's comments at the Sarah Palin rally Monday.
In urging voters to choose John McCain in the November election, Scott used Barack Obama's middle name - "Hussein."
Both the Obama and McCain campaign's immediately criticized the statement. McCain's camp said it distracted from their message, while Obama's office said Scott was trying to stoke the fires of a whisper campaign claiming Obama is a Muslim, which is not true.
This is what gets me. If it isn't true why do they really care?
They make to much out of it and to me it is SCREAMING that he is and they want to try to cover it up.

Me thinks they protest to much.
Isn't it human nature to get vocal and object when we are guilty of something and are trying to hide it. If we are innocent we just kinda shrug it off.

It is evident why, most American lack an understanding behind the meaning of Arabic names. So, when the name "Hussein" is used the immediate association is that of negativity. How many of us ever take the time to understand Islamic tradition? I can asure you not many. If we had, we would learn that "Hussein's" (hu-sein) pronounced, hoo-SAYN. Arabic origins translates in english to "good, small handsome one". Not that scary when knowledge is injected in place of bigotry.
You bring about a good point how Arabic names are seen in a negative light. This, unfortunately, came about because of 9/11. There are many Arabs in our country who are kind, nice people. People should also realize an Arabic name does not make the person Islamic/Muslim. In fact, there are Pentecostal Arabs! .
I will add, however, because of Obama's friendships with known Arabic terrorists, his Arabic name has caused a greater concern among some people.
