Re: Hike away from Ike?
Esther, where are you getting your information?? The storm has actually strengthened a little bit since last night (increasing from 100 mph - 105 since about 1:30 a.m.), and is expected to gain a little more strength, even possibly becoming a 3 before it actually hits. Sources are the National Hurricane Center and www.wunderground.com, as well as on CNN right now.
Cameron, LA is already getting a 6' surge, and the storm isn't even THERE yet.

Re: Hike away from Ike?
According to CNN, I-45 is now moving along pretty well, so if you want to leave, now is probably the time. They're saying that by noon today, they're going to want everyone off the roads.

Re: Hike away from Ike?
I heard as I woke up that the governor and mayor have both said of Galveston... if you do not leave we expect what could be the worst loss of life ever as this will be a most catastrophic storm..

Still don't know what we will do. We are packing up just in case we decide to leave.

Havent heard from them... gonna go thru my pm box in a while and find Esthers number... I heard here and not saying thats what they are saying there but they said that the airports close at noon and then people should still be able to get out thru tonight... however in Galveston (neither of them are there I dont think at least.. not positive where PO is) it may be a lot earlier that they refuse exit as the water is getting higher there faster.

This is what we are hearing. Very confusing reports fluctuating up and down. My husband said the media is whacked.

Just e-mailed you. I was up early and went back to bed. It's so eery and dark with the house boarded up and so many people gone. It's like a ghost town.
We went to check on the water yesterday evening and the tides are so high that the boat docks are flooded up into the parking lots. It's so weird when it hasn't rained to see flooding already.
I'm bored to death!!! My daughter and her husband already left for Round Rock. They are boarding their Pit Bull as my sister doesn't want it at her house. lol
I told her we were staying.

AG,
A low end Category 3 is 111 mph hour. That's only six more mph.
We aren't getting big alarm bells. It's only normal for where the eye hits.
I'm getting the same reports that Esther seems to be getting.
