Thinking more along the lines of a Bo Jackson. Somebody who was a great athlete not just a great player in one sport.
Good ole Bo... I don't even rank him up there because had he only played one sport he would have just been along for the ride.
He is nowhere near Manning or Brady in football and nowhere near the MLB greats... Granted he was good but not good enough in either.

Don't get me wrong, he was better then most but not the greats of the sports he was in.
He was a good pro ball player but no where near the greats....

In my opinion, his greatness was in his diversity.
Witness MJ, who tried to play baseball, and failed miserably. Witness Deion Sanders who tried to play two sports and quickly faded into mediocrity.
Witness numerous two-three sport college athletes who can't make it in either sport in the pros, due (IMHO) to the fact that they are not focused solely on either sport.

Sanders was just as good at football as Bo was, Bo stunk up the field. As an Outfielder Bo was horrible, when he became the DH he did better but that just shows you he wasn't an all around MLB player cause he could only make it with one set (the set I hate BTW).
Like I said he was ok but he was not better then Dion and didn't last much longer in lime then Dion either (if any).
One Probowl and only 16 touchdowns.... Bo would have probably landed the top of my list if he would have played football... he was a great in football but his heart was on baseball.... Oh well.

Witness Deion Sanders who tried to play two sports and quickly faded into mediocrity.
Maybe 'mediocre' isn't the best word. Per Merriam-Webster, mediocre is "of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance."
Deion played Major League Baseball (!!!) for 7 straight seasons while he played in the National Football League (!!!).
Playing both offense and defense, catching passes, returning punts, and defending the best pass catchers in the NFL, he earned six trips as a starter to the NFL Pro Bowl (8 total), yet managed to be a decent enough outfielder, hitter, and base stealer for 7 straight seasons to keep teams interested enough in him to trade for him. He hit for .260 over a nine year career. After taking a year off in '96, he came back the following year and batted .270 in more than 450 plate appearances while starting in 12 NFL games. In '92 he batted .300 in 300 at-bats and then started in 12 NFL games.
As a baseball player, his stats aren't Hall of Fame material, yet he managed to play regularly, while keeping two sets of employers happy. If his performance is mediocre, then I want to be mediocre, and I don't think I would be the only one.
By the way, I am not a fan of baseball or football, but am not ignorant of either sport. I am also not a fan of Deion Sanders, the athlete. I am a fan of Deion Sanders, the person, who gave his life to Jesus after the late Charles Mahanney (of blessed memory) witnessed to him on a long airplane flight. What he's doing now, I don't know, but I do know that Deion knows the Acts 2:38 message.

I guess it depends on if you are talking athletic ability or excelling in one sport. Jordan showed his inability to get it done on the diamond, and it always helpful for the stats when you get the extra step on the court as well as a whistle when you miss a basket.

Jordan was a decent hitter, considering he never played for the MLB you can't compare him to anyone else.
