I walk down 19 stairs to the sanctuary. We drove 25 miles to church oneway in TX.
We prayed and sung on the way to church.A beautiful scenic drive !
Sounds like you have five or six more steps than I have to get to your sanctuary. My commute to church is interesting and it has me labelled the "Apostolic hippy." I live in Boston (100 miles from my churh in Maine), but I often go to my parent's house on Friday (70 miles from church), and then I get to church late Friday night (around midnight, I let myself into the apartment at church), help in the food pantry on Saturday morning, stay for Sunday and then go back down to Boston on Sunday night (usually wth a stop to my parent's house before going to Boston).
gotta love the south! to risk being nosy, i assume your church might have split over standards? just curious as i hear about this a lot lately.
It was a combination of things. Former pastor was new pastor's father-in-law, new pastor didn't preach standards enough, certain folks wanted the standards preached, and new pastor wouldn't do it.
So we left. LOL. Who would have thought it would be so great. After being in a completely dysfunctional church for 27 years it is amazing just to go to a normal church. I didn't know that life could be this good. There is so much weight off our shoulders now that we can just preach the bible and not the UPC's rules.
So, yes you could say we split over standards but it is so much more than that. All of us "liberals" followed the standards but no one wanted to bring new converts into a church with that type of abusive atmosphere. We just got to the point where we couldn't justify being a part of all that anymore.

For about 6 months, I went to 1st UPC and it was a 45 minute drive each way. If there was 2 services on Sunday, I spent 3 hours driving that day! They built a new church which would take me an hour each way.
