Re: I've Got a Problem!

I don't see how anyone thinks it's cute to photograph innocent children like that.

Its a sad day for me when young adults wont heed popular and sound advice concerning posting nude pictures of innocent children showing genitals on Facebook. I cant believe it's come to this!

For them to cease communication over an issue like this, it means that there must be deeper issues here of which I'm not aware! This is insane!
Wow.

I'm less offended by the naked children and more offended that a parent wouldn't have the good sense to know that those types of pictures aren't for public consumption.

I hope you can make peace without retracting your wise concern. There are simply too many creeps online to post that stuff publicly. It's severely ignorant on the part of your DIL.

From the article Renda posted: "...That’s what happened to Alma Vasquez, a 22-year-old Utah mom who was accused of sexual exploitation of a minor after she took digital photos of her baby at bath time into Walgreens for processing into prints. Charges were dropped, but only after the family went through the ordeal of arrests, jail, and the state temporarily removing their child from their home.

Another mom, Nicole Saupe, got freaked out when she put a cute photo of her diaper-clad toddler online – and it was downloaded three times. By who, she still doesn’t know."

I think it's fine to have photos that only family sees.

It's something different entirely to share them with the world [wide web].

Re: I've Got a Problem!

You did the right thing, Mr. Steinway. It's unfortunate that your DIL has chosen not to heed, or at least listen respectfully, to wise counsel. I think I would definitely just let it ride for now and not contact her....you have nothing to ask forgiveness or apologize for, and IMO doing so just gives credence to her point of view. Sorry you're having to go through this.

Praying for your DIL to come across something that will bring her to her senses and apologize to you.

Why would anyone want pics of their naked children? I can't wrap my brain around that somehow being okay.

When I commented that it bothered me and I thought it was inappropriate, I was lambasted for not respecting her parenting decisions, but at least she appeased me by taking them off Facebook.

I complimented her for "doing the right thing" and she became furious. I tried to reason with her, but it only made things worse.

What should I do? Should I just contact Facebook next time and let them take it off?
You were correct. There are way too many pedophiles that frequent networks like this and in truth you may have saved them from spreading their pictures to porno sites or even worse.

Many people are not only not offended by nudity but think in the 'right' setting it is beautiful. One only has to look at ancient art (even 'christian' art) to see nude chubby babies galore. The classic bear-skin rug is another example. These kinds of photos are not to be confused with pornographic type pictures of children where they are depicted in a sexual way.

However age 11 is prepubescent and really pushing the envelop by any standards. At that age a girl will have some breast development in most cases. Not to mention the completely public way in which she used them which was not only stupid but probably illegal.

This mother obviously did not use good judgement and it sounds as if there is a pattern with her making less than sound decisions.

Mr.S. In the future if you can find a way to not confront directly it might be best to use it, yes. But if the safety of your grandbabies is on the line, as it was in this case, you are more than justified in speaking up. It sounds as if you have a world of maturity and love on your side to make up for whatever lack of either there is on your son and DILs. I pray this whole situation blows over soon. Peace to you.

It wasn't 11 years, it was 11 months old, so still an infant. The 5 year old on the other hand is a bit more bothersome.

Um, well, let's see...to name a few: I have pics of my kids in bubble bath, pics of them using the toilet for the first time and pics of one of my daughters at about age 2 standing in front of our huge picture window in only shoes and a hat. She had gotten out of the bath and dressed herself and those were the items of clothing that were *important.* We also have pictures of them right after they were born while they were still being cleaned up--obviously naked.

My point is--those pictures are fine for family to see, IMO, but not appropriate for posting publicly or even showing to friends.
