Re: Posting under real names
I have no problem letting my true identity be known. I would hope it is obvious that any view expressed by any individual is his or her own and does not necessarily reflect the views of his or her family, friends, pastor or next door neighbor. Furthermore, if my views are in error, I would hope someone would see them and set me straight before I go off the deep end.

Some people will try to do that, even if you're not in error.

Those who do it in a manner which is consistant with all fruit of the spirit will receive a response in kind. Those who do so abrasively will be ignored.

If AFF were to do this, would you still post on here? I know some do already, but the majority of us do not.
I probably would, simply because most of my posts aren't anything crazy, and I tend to lurk more than post as it is.

I would NOT want my past posts connected to me, but only for the sake of my family. So, if given the option to NOT connect my real name to my present screen name, I would simply start over with a new screen name and be VERY careful not to cause my family grief.

I have to ask, how would your posts cause your family grief? Are there the previously mentioned "peons" ready to report you to the man-of-god?

Re: Posting under real names
My main reason for not wanting to use my real name is general internet security or lack thereof. This is a public forum. I'm less concerned about "tattling" and more concerned about any wacko knowing my real name. There's very little privacy anymore.

Is your telephone number also unlisted? You never know when some wacko will randomly open up a phone book and pick a number with their eyes closed and proceed to try and off you. Just watch out for the cans!

Re: Posting under real names
When I joined a previous forum, I thought we all needed a forum name so I chose Sam because that's how I'm known on some other forums. Later, I realized I could have used my real name but by then I had established an identity.
My real name is Jim Ellis or James Ellis (that's my name on Facebook). I don't have to be afraid that my pastor or somebody else might read my comments here and cause problems. I respect my pastor and he respects me and if there are differences in some of the things we believe we have to agree to disagree.
Not everyone is comfortable using their real name here and I have no problem with that.
