Re: What Standards Have you Dropped Since Joining.

Over the 6 years or so I've been on the forums, I seen a lot of people make drastic changes. some have been more subtle. I do think the forum has had a lot to do with reshaping opinions especially when bonds and friendships are formed. I try to mind my own business and stay out of the doctrinal debates.

ONe word of caution though. I have seen people who changed and are now so far to the left that they believe in unitarianism/universalism. Don't say it can't happen I can name numerous people who are into this who left the UPC. this hit home with someone I know personally and it was a serious wake up call for me. I didn't know that small changes would lead to this.

Some are teaching that there is no literal hell these days to. Sad, stay in the book, it is the anchor.

Re: What Standards Have you Dropped Since Joining.

Standards I've dropped since joining?

I was attending a UPC when I joined. I'm not now. I left over standards...oddly enough. Because they weren't mine and when they became more important for the pastor to preach about than anything having to do with God, I had to move on.

My personal standards haven't changed though.

When we left a strict, independent church, I'm sure some people thought we had really backslid. LOL!!! But really, we just reverted back to using our own personal convictions, rather than following that particular church's rules.

Some pastors believe that once you start following a particular rule, that if you stop following it you are letting go of your consecration. I think that's silly. If I follow a rule simply because the church asks me to, but lay it down when and if the church does, then I'm not letting go of "my consecration;" I'm just continuing to abide by my own convictions, which didn't happen to include that rule in the first place.

Does that even make sense?

...and here I was told that if I didn't agree with everything, that I should attend another church. I think it was LadyCS that said that...

Re: What Standards Have you Dropped Since Joining.

Standards haven't changed since being assimilated into the world of the Forum. What has changed is this: I find I am more tolerant of the views of others, even thoiugh I disagree with them. Since joining these forums, I have come to know that there is a broad cross section of doctrinal views among people who call themselves Apostolic. In the past I would take a strong stand against anyone who didn't mirror my views to the letter. But, this forum has helped me to know that spiritual unity is of greater value than doctrinal unity.

And, I don't have to try to "fit in" as I once did. I don't believe what I believe to be accepted into the "good ol' boys" club. I just read the Bible for what it says, and not for what some preacher, church or organization tells me It says. And that is really liberating!

I agree with LadyCS, for the most part. For the good of the church in question, and the good of the saint, it's better if the saint can abide by teachings of their local assembly. JMO!

Re: What Standards Have you Dropped Since Joining.

I have changed a lot since joining FCF but it wasn't because of FCF.

Re: What Standards Have you Dropped Since Joining.

I didn't think anyone would admit the forum had any influence on them.

I know better. Newman's articles had a powerful influence on a lot of women regarding their hair and pants
