1 Tim 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
10 But ( which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Lol. I knew this one would pop up. First of all the word holiness is not mentioned anywhere in the chapter. Secondly if you are gonna make a heaven and hell doctrine out of these two verses please please tell me how do you ignore the rest of the chapter?? Thirdly find me a scripture on appearance about men

... on your second point - how convenient to ignore the part about the women being silent in church.... I guess a lot of women are going to that hot place, if they've ever spoken a word in church!
.... but that is a whole 'nother mess of worms....
... continuing on with the subject of holiness... I would be interested in being provided with a scripture with the word holiness mentioned in the setting of a "holy dress" code.

Re: Standards
Holiness is a complete lifestyle shaped by the Holy Spirit of God. No God, no holiness! I was discussing with my wife tonight about the pressure put on traditional OP ladies to loosen up on their dress standards. During her youth, my wife was teased and bullied for her values. Professing Christians from other denominations were often the bullies.
I have respect for those who still hold high standards. They don't gain recognition of men for it. If you disagree with someone's standards then please show them the same courtesy you expect them to show you. I hope that the people who say, "just follow the Spirit," are doing just that, and not using it to justify their choices. God will one day judge our hearts and the truth will be revealed no matter what our stance is on standards.
Many times the people holding the higher standards are not the legalists that they are made out to be. It is often the people who argue against standards because the scripture isn't explicit enough. I am thankful for my wife who holds to her values despite the persecution for it. I don't want to ever persecute someone who does something sincerely for my Lord Jesus.

Many times this question is asked in a condescending way. Not saying that is what you are doing. Many people asks similar questions to others to make them feel they are just being silly for dressing a certain way.
Holiness is everything from dress, attitude, speech, etc. When God enters our lives we should see him everywhere.

GS the problem isn't "standards". Your wife and any other believer has the right and liberty to "keep standards". The problem is when those personal convictions are preached as required of everyone.
Do you preach that a woman can't trim her hair or wear pants?
