It's really not necessary to go there DA. It's no secret that a church of say, 400 members, may be the only OP church in town yet have records of having baptized 4,000 in the last 30 years. Same can be true for non OP churches.
Except a few the remaining 3,600 did not die... most are simply non practicing Christians. And I agree most of those would likely justify their current state in spite of being mostly uncommitted and unchurched.

Re: Ballestero's The Saved Backslider
Interesting that one of the replies to someone not agreeing with him stated that it was "grief" instead of "cold stares" ......okay.

Re: Ballestero's The Saved Backslider
Daniel,
While I disagree with most of the specifics, I agree with MB's overall premise.
The last few years I pastored, I noticed a trend where new folks believed the church should change in order to cater to their needs. Also, it was fine to preach against sin, as long as I kept it very generic.
Adultery is still wrong. Fornication is still wrong. Lying, stealing, cheating and coveting are still wrong.
However, this generation does not want to hear the truth.
As I said earlier, nobody's a sinner nowadays.

Re: Ballestero's The Saved Backslider
Remember the day when you knew someone was backslidden and they knew it too?
Their lifestyle gave them away. Their own actions brought condemnation upon themselves.
I agree.
They smoked and tried to hide it when they saw the pastor coming because they knew they were wrong.
They drank alcohol and knew it was wrong.
I agree
They went to nightclubs and hoped no one would see them because they knew they were wrong.
If they went to the movies they looked around first to make sure no one saw them because they knew they were doing wrong.
Women cut their hair and felt guilt when members of the church saw them because they knew they had done wrong.
Women put on make up and jewelry to look like the world and knew they were wrong.
Women put on slacks and felt ill at ease because they knew they were wrong.
They went swimming in public places exposing their bodies and knew it wasn’t right.
They got tattoos and tried to hide them from the church folks because they knew they were wrong.
They had affairs and their conscience never stopped preaching to them because they knew they were living wrong.
I agree.
There's a lot I agree with here.

I think the legalists of the world are having a hard time keeping their control over people. I will add that licentiousness is going to be the over-correction, but that grace-centered, spirit-led sanctification is ultimately the answer. We have to learn to be comfortable with what we view as a mess, but is really just something other than mass uniformity.

Anyone that does any of those things is a sinner.
There are some ministers that don't want to hear the truth either.

Some who believe false doctrine (pants on a woman) trumps adultery.
John Piper just made Charnock's list of holiness preachers ...

A hearty amen to that!
Just left a forum because many ministers expressed an opinion that they would rather a minister commit adultery than not preach standards.
Weirdness.
