Agreed ... in an asynchronous forum with limited time edit windows ... or in my case this morning, taken away ... simple typos are a reality ...
even homophones can get crossed up
when martial law becomes marshall law on a blog claiming the news from "an Apostolic perspective"... it's glaring

this outlet does puff pieces for the Rock Church and the WPF.
Thanks Admin for correcting this oversight ... and allowing me the equal access right to edit.

Everything I've read on sulpher bolides states that it is accompanied with a green light ...
Quote:
The following day after the fireball sighting, the American Meteor Society showed up looking for the the supposed meteorite. After searching for two days, they finally gave up and concluded it was not a meteor. Rev. Tony Spell, the pastor of the church, talked to every eye witness of the happening and they all described the same event. Rev. Spell stated, “Every message in the conference was geared toward truth and holiness. The motto of the conference was “Transferring Truth to the Next Generation.” I believe God was just putting his stamp of approval on the conference!”

Serious doubts the underlined happened.

Re: Response to WPF Fireball thread: AN Lying Agai
I have contacted the American Meteor Society which is linked to the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of Pennsylvania State University and I am awaiting their response.

The AMS relies on data and observations of "affiliates" .. professionals and amateurs alike ... throughout the the US and worldwide to log reports in their database collection ...
Quote:
Welcome to the web pages of the AMS. We are an organization of amateur and professional meteor scientists and observers founded in 1911, with a common goal of studying meteors: – bright fireballs, the annual meteor showers, and the random sporadic meteors that appear every night. It’s an exciting field, where amateurs equipped only with their eyes, a watch, and a tape recorder can make valuable scientific observations.
Anyone, regardless of prior knowledge or skill, interested in observing meteors and advancing meteor science is welcome to become an affiliate of the AMS. We also welcome casual browsers just looking for information on meteor showers; please look through the many resources available on our site for you.

Methinks the AMS rep was some "Coast to Coast" radio junkie and UFO hunter flashing AMS "affiliate" credentials ...
And, yes, they didn't find anything because it didn't land in Louisiana ...

Amen!
Nothing wrong with a bit of sensationalism... LOL! I guess I have come to expect that in small doses at least.
But if even the origins of a story aren't based in truth what is the point?

Re: Response to WPF Fireball thread: AN Lying Agai
My message to AMS:
Quote:
I recently came along this religious site that attributed, what was
most likely the major bolide that occurred on January 11th, to an act
of God approving their religious retreat.
http://www.apostolicnews.org/2011/01...al-conference/
Also, the article stated that someone in your organization visited the
church and somehow confirmed this was not a meteor.
"The following day after the fireball sighting, the American Meteor
Society showed up looking for the the supposed meteorite. After
searching for two days, they finally gave up and concluded it was not
a meteor."
Did any one in your organization take such action?

The response of Robert Lunsford,Operations Manager and Journal Editor of AMS:
Quote:
Daniel,
I can assure you that this is pure fiction...
Sincerely,
Robert Lunsford
American Meteor Society

Re: Response to WPF Fireball thread: AN Lying Agai
Good work!
Like you said. Can this stuff "stand the truth test during the information digital age?"
Let me guess, your Mr. Lunsford will be lambasted as an unbeliever... refusing to give God the obvious credit he is due.
