When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

New York couldn't hold my attention
Detroit City couldn't sing my song
If tomorrow finds me busted flat in Dallas
I won't care, 'cause at least I'll know I'm home.

When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

I'd ride through all of Hell and half of Texas
Just to hear Willie Nelson sing a country song
Beer just ain't as cold in old Milwaukee
My body's here, but my soul's in San Antone.

While I do live in Arkansas I can often be heard saying "I was Texas born & Texas bred. And when I die I'll be Texas dead."

Re: Paying For Tax Cuts...

Your forum discusses my faith quite often. That is a separate issue and if you wish to discuss it start a new topic about it and if it looks interesting who knows I may join the discussion or not.

The referenced sources and categories have nothing to do with me, or faith, or this forum actually. The topic was taxes and taxes are merely one reason I am (personally) aware of that retirees are moving out of country and tech people are moving overseas to work.

Noted with amusement is the jump to personal attack while declining the offer to conduct your own research. On a lighter note of course the country is horrible. That's why we lived in (the republic of) Texas. LOL

You talk about my opinions....you take every opportunity to slam this country, do you get some kind of satisfaction of coming to an American Christian forum to let us all know how horrible this country is and to defend your kind of faith?
What is the point, wii?

I have no desire to start a discussion on Islam.

You were responding to my question of where are the stats that say the line is long to leave this country.
Why on earth should I do the research? it was the point you made, therefore you have to defend it.
And I might add, you did not make your case that the line is long to leave this country.

It's a personal attack for me to question why you come to a Christian American website? My, but you're sensitive.
But, it's okay for you to let us know, to enlighten us all that we're not "better off" in this country...ha ha.

It was around 500 people leave every 90 days by reason of trying to revoke citizenship. This is to get out of paying taxes, running from child support or some other ordeal.
500 is a low day for southern border crossings into America.

Re: Paying For Tax Cuts...

Thank you for not starting a discussion in Islam. It is best to stick with discussions on issues that one is familiar with.

Actually I do not have to prove what I already know. What I know is stated and stands and certainly there is no data, anywhere, that proves or implies that the 6.1 million (2% of Americans actually and up from the 5 million in 2008) Americans living and working overseas are not better off. According to them anyway. You are quite welcome to prove this wrong but you evidently cannot. See above on issues that one is familiar with.

Those Americans (tend) to be from the more productive sectors.

The discussion certainly drifted into personal issues that had nothing to do with the topic. Probably because there is no data that implies that the above is inaccurate.

The reason that it was stated that the lines are long is because (according to Time Mag) the applications are backed up at overseas consulates. You are probably not aware that it is illegal to revoke citizenship for tax purposes. Even if you are all paid up at the time of application the application also requires a hefty "exit tax" of your assets. So - even revoking citizenship is taxed.

As to whether or not you personally are better off is not for me to say. If you are in the 50% of Americans who contribute nothing, pay no taxes, and keep what you earn (are free-loading) then you are likely better off where you are. If you are in the 51%-100% of Americans who are highly educated, have valuable skills, and productive, then you are likely better off outside the US. Cracking down on those individuals who live and work outside the US but are taxed anyway (the US is the only developed country that follows and taxes their overseas citizens) is what is driving the switch to other citizenships.

(Generally) those who laugh at such an idea (better off outside) fall within the 0-50% and I am quite sure that it is a correct statement that such individuals are better off freeloading and the idea of starting with nothing in a different place and keeping more of what you work for is foreign to such individuals. So - with this in mind I withdraw the general comment on "better off" and replace it with "if you are highly productive, educated, and have valuable skills you are currently better off outside the US than inside the US".

My only comment to Coadie is that it is re-iterated that those in discussion tend to be from the more productive sectors and it appears to be work/reward that draws rather than issues that are being run from or avoided. aka expatriation like many other things is driven by personal reward and market forces.

Homesick is a separate issue. Who would not want to live and work in their homeland? It used to be possible.......

On border crossings see earlier comments on freeloading
