I don't think I'll ever understand why so many people wait until the last minute to file, thereby putting themselves under all that extra stress.
My husband has had the forms prepared since February...but he didn't submit them till today (yesterday)...it's called: Not wanting to pay until you HAVE to.

I had the same strategy planned. Until I could not find my W-2 tonight. I may need an extension..... our bookkeeper is in Florida on vacation.

To bad the property taxes is just as punitive, but it seems better anyway.

This isn't true, at least under normal circumstances. Taxes have to be filed by April 17th even if the money isn't able to be paid.
I do taxes for myself and a friend all the time. She owes money and last year I filed for an extension but didn't file the paperwork. They told me that the paperwork gets filed regardless, and the extension is for the money owed.
It's the same way this year. She owes again this year but I've already filed her paperwork. The money will be sent by October.
Looking further into this matter this morning, it seems the guy told me wrong last year.
Weird. Now I have to tell my friend that her taxes are due today!
