Well, we could probably find obscure references in history to prove that God has had baseball games all along --that He left Himself without witness and it's not something new in the past couple of centuries.

I had a minister use this scripture to preach against men people wearing shorts -

ISA47:
1Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

2Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

Said that when God cursed Israel, he made her "uncover the thigh".

Notwithstanding that this passage is not even about Israel, and if we took it literally we could say that it was ok for men to wear shorts to the knees.

Re: A Lesson in Pentecostal Hermeneutics

Here's another one:

Acts 27:12
And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west.

During one of Paul's cruises, they were going to stay in a certain hotel, but apparently it was too cold, and the pipes froze, so the toilet wouldn't work, so they had to go somewhere else.

Acts 26 where Paul says to Agripa, "I think myself happy...."

I've heard several ministers preach ,using that text, that we're to think ourselves into a happy state.

What stupid exegesis!!!

We would say that we think that we're fortunate to be able to present our case before Agripa.
Here's the ESV- Acts 26:1-3- " So Agrippa said to Paul, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense:

2 “I consider myself fortunate that it is before you, King Agrippa, I am going to make my defense today against all the accusations of the Jews, 3 especially because you are familiar with all the customs and controversies of the Jews. Therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently."

It has nothing to do with a Norman Vincent Peale state of mind.
