I don't doubt the spirituality of the men that disagreed recently at Tampa over TV ... on both sides ...

I doubt their sense.

THese things are political animals more than anything.

Sad ... in one breath they are men that have the shekinah on their faces after consulting God for their votes on Mount Horeb ...

and in the next they are doing a conga-line in adoration of the golden calf.

Make up your mind.

By damning others to hell for wearing a ring - it's obvious.

By saying that it's a "non-essential issue" you may infer damnation to those who take serious disagreement (Deuteronomy 12:32; Revelation 22:18-19).

For many of us, the "added" commandments represent something akin to Baal worship being introduced in our midst. I confess that this at times comes across as "damning" when I say things like, "It's a sin to worship Baal..." In a sense I am being judgmental and I have to watch my spirit.

But still, it's a sin to introduce Baal worship (Judges 2:13-14).

While from a practical level this may be "just pie in the sky..." it does show how the UPC itself can learn to write "rules" that everyone can live with - don't write those rules at all.

What's a statement that everyone can agree on concerning wedding rings? No statement all.

What's a statement on facial hair that everyone can agree on? No statement all.

Once the UPC (and other Apostolic orgs) grow up and start taking spiritually mature "stands" on these silly "issues" then real progress can be made toward authentic holiness.
Hey, imagine that. The UPC has NO WRITTEN statement on either of those. Reckon that solves that.
