They did compete on one show, AND they did perform on Idol - Jesus on the Mainline and This Little Light of Mine.

Steven Tyler and Aerosmith are not typical rockers/rock bands. I mean musically. I suspect he sang this for the bluesie black gospel element of it and not for the religious.

Liv Tyler I can see....but Steven...
Anyways, Steven has always been a cross dresser.....uh I mean a cross over. They performed with Run DMC years before others were doing it.
I always imagined "Dude Looks Like a Lady" was about him...He was probably walking the streets of New York and over heard some construction workers talking about him
