John Wesley and Finney were tongue talkers. They had a heavenly gift and scarcely realized what they had. Amazing. My grandmother who was born at the end of the Civil War was an old time Methodist. She remembered when the Methodist used to get the "goose jabbers," speaking in a funny language. Many of them had to be carried home in wagons. Some went out in visions and saw glorious things.
I wonder if we have as much Holy Ghost as they did, even though we have paid careful attention to ALL THEE STEPS.

My wife has told me about her great grand-mom - Sis Womble's mother who they often had to carry home.
Do we have as much Holy Ghost? I think the answer is no. We could have but we just don't commit the way they did. My wife would often go stay with the Womble's and she said they went to someone's home almost every day and had a prayer meeting. If someone was sick they would all gather in that person's home to pray. Don't see that now.

The Holy Ghost probably doesn't have as much of us as He did of them.

My mom and several ladies from the church I grew up in were like that. Go to each other's houses and have prayer meetings. My mom was a woman of great faith and a prayer warrior. This was back in the 60's.

I don't think you can blame our lack on the THREE STEPS, but all those other steps we do in our entertainment driven lives.
I have never read of any revival that was not born on someones knees. It was usually very long hours of weeping and crying out to God. Nowadays we spend 30 minutes in prayer and feel like we should be commended. I can remember my dad fasting 40 days and nights several times. He would pray hours at a time. It is no wonder as a youth I saw so many mighty miracles, and Oh the times that you thought the heavens themselves had rent and God had come down in the services. I truly miss those days, and long for their return.

And sometimes church wasn't over until midnight, (on school nights even). And when we were little we made pallets between the pews to sleep on. And I don't remember anyone getting stepped on by someone shouting or dancing in the spirit.

Same here about revival coming through prayer. Just reading about your Dad gives me goose bumps.
