Re: Help finding a church in Knoxville TN
This has been an educational and informational thread to me. As one that lives here in Knoxville, I can say that I have not found any church that I would be able to settle into.
On a side note concerning Bethel, a few years back when my family had just moved here, we were praying about where to go to church, and I decided that we just needed to get out and drive. As we were driving, a church van passed us, and my daughter saw the words "Apostolic" on it. I turned around and broke the sound barrier trying to catch up to that van!! It had pulled in to get gas, and the man driving the van had to think we were strange when I pulled up and asked him where their church was, and when services were. They were having an anniversary, with I think Sis Cash's Dad preaching (a Bishop in his own group from NC). I seem to remember them being a Oneness COGIC group, but I may be remembering wrong. We did attend, and did enjoy the service. Great singing and preaching. But a few of the brothers on the platform had ear rings. I think one of them was a brother to Sis Cash. Man my memory is bad on all this. You may have even been there then Mercy.
The highlight was that they were considering taking Apostolic out of the church name, and the brother that drove the van had me get up and testify about how it was because I had seen "Apostolic" that we were there.
I LOVE black churches. I actually would probably fit into a black church better than a white church because the worship and praise better suit me. I'll take black gospel over hillsong stuff any day of the week.

That is cause you are an elitist!
j/k
The thing about Knoxville is that it can sustain more than one Apostolic church. Infact it needs more than it has now. Thing is that most of them feel that they were 'there first' or something and it seems that transplanting saints happens too frequently.

Re: Help finding a church in Knoxville TN
I probably was there (if it was between 2000 and 2005), but I can tell you that they NEVER considered taking Apostolic out of the name during that time frame. The Cash's and Sheild's (Bishops wifes family) are not cogic, they are oneness....and I think its COOLJC that they came out of in NC. Not sure about the earring thing either because pretty much all of the "rules" about appearance come from Sis. Cash. May have been some of the "kids"....cuz sometimes the Mass NC Choir of some sort would come with them for anniversary celebrations.
It would have been Sis. Cash's brother also....I think he is the presiding Bishop of thier org....cuz her dad died in 2001 when I first got there so he never preached beyond that (obviously).
I am curious what "van" you saw...Bethel had a van, but it didnt have the name on the side. It was probably one of the vans from NC.
Do you remember when this was? Just curious....

Re: Help finding a church in Knoxville TN
I know it was not COOLJC because most of our churches dont even have the word APOSTOLIC in it. 90% of our churches are called Refuge (Refuge Temple, Greater Refuge Temple, Refuge Ministries) and we just abreviate COOLJC (Church of our Lord Jesus Christ). Cost too much to print that on the sides of vans and church bullitins. LOL I wonder what church this could have been? Hmmmm............
However, that earring thing......it could have been anyone.....outward standards are going out the window as we speak in most black churches...its sad......everyone wants to be like B.E.T. or M.T.V. or V.H.1........

Re: Help finding a church in Knoxville TN
Ok...I know its something long like COOLJC....it was all new to me at the time cuz all I ever knew as far as pentecostal churches was the PAW before moving to TN.
Ok so I did an internet search. I know Sis. Cash's brother is Wallace Shields, Jr. So this comes up: http://www.cogijca.org/id4.html
So I guess the name of the org is Church of God in Jesus Christ??? The picture is one of her other brothers Randy.
