Re: *Myles Young's Departure from the UPC*
This person does not know anything about California or is limited to just a handful of former UPC churches like Wilson's

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

California is mixed bed of UPC churches and none of them are quite the same. We were in Southern California and that was the case there as well.

Is this really fair to judge an adult pastor by what he did as a teenage boy?

One of our parents was NOT 'in the church'; therefore, we had a TV. This practice by both Myles and Monte, continued well after both graduated from high school. We were sworn to secrecy to not let their dad know, being the unrealistic and very controlling affect he had over his family and his parishioners. Sadly, this behavior by most Pentecostal clergy is considered acceptable; however, dysfunctional as it is. For most Pentecostal PK's (preacher's kids), it's a life of double standards. Therefore, it's NO surprise to me that Myles met and married Rev. Nathaniel Wilson's daughter, Sheliah. Rev. Wilson was ,and still is, as controlling as Myles' dad over his congregation. The difference between Louisiana Pentecostals and California Pentecostals is different. Louisiana Pentecostals have had ENOUGH of 'being controlled' and California Pentecistals are still learning this inappropriate clergy behavior. There are exceptions here, though. So, I'm quite certain that the lure of one day inheriting a successful Pentecostal church with a well known pastor within all of the Pentecostal organizations, was stronger than Myles' more liberal convictions. Myles is a good guy but knowing him since his father became pastor of the First UPC of Baton Rouge, I doubt his extreme conservative convictions are genuine. I'm sure it's more of the 'double standard' that he grew up with. I wouldn't be surprised if Myles is passing the same behavior on to his own children. Of course with Rev. Wilson still 'in charge', it can be assumed it will be business as usual. I'm an original Louisiana Cajun and I call it as I see it! Keeping it 100% real....

I cannot say anything about what happened in his youth...I was not there.
However, I view the services online as much as I can, and from his sermons I detect a conservative stance. Furthermore, to say that you "doubt his extreme conservative convictions are genuine" is to say that he is less than honorable.
Is that what you meant to say?
Perhaps he may be considered by some to not being conservative because he plays golf or wears a colored shirt, but that does not define liberal convictions where I come from.
As for Bishop Wilson being controlling...
He was my pastor for many years and controlling is not a word I would use to describe him. Even as a young man, NJW was sure about himself and the call of God on his life.
But controlling? No...

HE PLAYS GOLF???? AND WEARS COLORED SHIRTS??????
My oh my... slipping past the harbour...quick! Somebody throw out the lifeline!!! Get on the royal telephone, the great speckled bird is about to take a trip on the good old gospel ship!!! He needs to be camping in Canaan's land instead of golfing in the devil's playground!!! Then we'll hear those joybells of heaven (oh how sweetly they ring) and maybe... just maybe... he can escape from LA...or wherever he's at... in the city....city of Compton... or whatever...

What if everyone was judged by what they did when they were kids? I think we all have done silly stuff at times.....

Exactly! And to say that underneath that conservative facade is a liberal crying to break free, or that his role as SIL to Bishop Wilson means he live a certain way...why that's just silly and unfair.
Worse than being unfair, it calls into question his very character...
