But seriously, I don't much care for the lyrics, either. Pretty defeatist. "Nothing really matters"? But it's just a story, told from a certain point of view. This fellow seems depressed, and why wouldn't he? He's a murderer! Don't you feel a burden for his soul?
What is the source for determining what is true? How about our minds? How about open eyes? Look at the real world for what it is, and not just what a collection of ancient writings says it is, or should be.
Sorry for the delay in responding, Timmy, but this portion of your last response to me (as noted) has given me cause for much concern, and so I have taken some time to ponder it quite extensively.
First, recognizing that you appear (or so it seems to me) to reject the Bible as the "Standard" by which the statements of others might be authenticated as to their truthfulness or not, and offer no other source by which this might be accomplished other than "our minds" or "eyes," which are things which can never be completely reliable, then I must conclude that you find yourself confronted with an insurmountable quandry. For this reason, above all others that I have been able to think of, I doubt that you will ever be completely satisfied in your heart concerning the truth of things spiritual, and for this I feel sorrowful for your impossible plight!
You have displayed a willingness to quote from the writings of the Bible to support many of your statements (to me as well as other members of AFF which I have occasioned to read), yet you reject its acceptance as a "Standard" for determining truth! I find that absolutely astounding!
And so, it is with deep regrets that I do feel compelled to inform you that, yes, I will take the advice which you gave me in an earlier post: "...mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have received; and avoid them."
I shall pray for you, my friend, but hereafter will cease from further communications.

I understand completely, and I thank you for having this dialog, short as it was.

Hebrews 13:23 Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty
It's so simple! Why didn't I see it before? The entire key to salvation, and the need for it, and how it works and why, and the whole nine yards! OK, first, the need for salvation is very simple. I actually have mentioned this before, but just for review:
Q. Why does every man and woman need salvation?
A. Because without it, they will be punished for not doing the impossible (i.e., being perfect).
And now, the obvious follow-up question to that one (other than the most obvious follow-up, which is "How do I get salvation? Please! Tell me! And get it right! My eternal life depends on it!") is:
Q. What will satisfy God, if He doesn't punish me for my own sins?
A. Punishing someone else, of course! Duh! Oh, not just anyone else, though. It has to be a sinless someone. Yes, God will give any guilty person a clean slate by allowing for someone else (as long as He isn't Himself guilty of anything) to die instead.
(OK, so the above isn't exactly news. I mentioned it on another thread a few days ago. But I'm not sure, before that, I ever really grasped this concept before. Not with such clarity, at least.)
Oh, wait. I included "why" in the above list of things that became suddenly clear, didn't I?
Oops.

Wow, I just had a strange Deja vu! This sounds exactly like something Brad would have written back in the day I can't remember what his screen name was, but he was the resident skeptic before you came on the scene! Duh...I just remembered that you know Brad, LOL

Yep. Awesome guy, Brad.

I hope you don't mind, but I posted a snippet on his facebook page, but I didn't name the source. A strange struggle between copyright infringement, and privacy....
