Well, the Deacon's song specifically mentions the "Manual". I can see how UPCI folks could find that offensive.

I agree....it's sad enough we have anti-Pentecostals loathing us without those who are supposed to be Pentecostals with their self loathing posts
Factual discussions that seek solutions are helpful. Attempts at ridicule and mockery just stigmatize us more.
You know the really sad part? There are Trinitarians that come here and read what you all post about yourselves....if you do go their forum, like at CARM, you never see the Trinitarians attacking each other. They are focused on you guys.
Mat 12:25 Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.
For all the talk about UCers not being united or causing division over issues like TV, the liberals are equally as quilty. Honestly if either group was really intent on world wide revival and spreading the Apostolic truth, they'd seek to be more edifying and when it comes to doctrinal differences they'd approach them from a purely factual and scriptural standpoint and not resort to insults or mockery.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Try re-reading what I said in context Bro. I never said they don't argue. My point was in a forum like CARM they present a united front. Go there to the anti-Oneness board and you won't see them divided on anything usually.

To be fair, Coonskinner penned the better of the first two parodys:
Quote:
I'm a Pentecostal but I'm really not so glad
I'd like to be on TBN cause standards make me mad
My heroes all wear pinky rings, I wish that I could too
But maybe after Tampa then my dreams can all come true
And I can finally be myself without a trace of fear
I'm a closet charismatic wondering why I am still her
I'm so much nicer, smarter and more spiritual than you
And if you weren't conservative you'd know that it was true
You're just a Neo-Pharisee and bound with all your rules
And in my secret heart of hearts I think that you're all fools
My arrogance is rancid though it's cloaked as nicey-nice
Embarassed by my heritage I hate to pay the price
I'd chuck my card this minute if I knew I'd lose no folks
But there still might be one or two who'd rather bear the yokes
And staying in enables me to barb and cut and smear
I'm a closet charismatic, wondering why I am still here
|
I had to concede he blistered me with this one after my original parody (which was pretty lame on another forum). After he reposted this here, I had to try and get a touche.
Thanks for the inspiration CS! And BTW, I really don't know you or your friends so there is no way of me knowing if the parody reflects you or them or not. Its all in good fun---(wink, wink, nod, nod)
Sorry to offend anyone. I'm not mocking anyone's worship. I'm taking the song to the extreme. Prax you made some good points on the other thread and I didn't respond so I'll say here, you are right, I am making judgments about the song and the motives for the song and the attitudes of those worshipping along with the song. If it encourages ONE soul and builds their faith and helps them to get saved or get closer to Jesus, then the song is worth it and I need to shut up and leave well enough alone.
I want the ucs to leave us mods/libs alone on tv. I should practice the same when it comes to others I dont' see eye to eye with. My sincerest apologies and heartfelt thanks for helping me see I was reacting with knee-jerk reflexes.
