Vertical Worship should be the only way. I mean, when we sing about who we are, we can praise the Lord and give Him thanks for all He has done. But, worship is a much deeper, personal time between you and the Lord, where it is all about Him.

If we try to make worship about anything else, we have become idol worshippers. We must worship Him and Him alone. Only He is worthy of our worship and praise.

I cannot speak of anyone else's church, but at my home church, we openly sing of the Blood, and the name of the Lord, who He is and what He has done. Worship is expected when I walk into service. It is what I long to do. Dancing is good, and so is running and shouting. But, in that time of one-on-one time with the Lord is where I experience Him. This is how church should be.

Just a question....I am sure someone with have a answer :-)

Should we really x-out all songs that do not fit the vertical category?

"Amazing Grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see"

This wouldn't really fit the vertical category...it is basically a self-proclamation of what God has done in a person's life. And you can have a great time with God singing it. So does it get the boot??

BTW, vertical worship songs are my fav and all the songs mentioned are ones we sing at our church. BUT, I still think a bit of balance may be best....IMO, there is room of a variety of styles of songs and music.

Wouldn't that be a song of praise and thanksgiving? Of course we love those old songs, but I really like a lot of the new worship songs that are out there right now. It seems as though the Charismatics have latched onto a standard bible concept. That concept is that all of life is about the Lord Most High. When we begin to look at things through that lens our problems become much more manageable and small. To me, that is what church is about.

Perspective.

Keeping me in my place and God in His.

But I think that song's main focus is on HIS amazing grace...so it qualifies as vertical praise...

I like the prayer songs too.

[YT="I Need You"]FUIb3Q05cfE[/YT]

strangely out of place
there's a light filling this room where
none would follow before
i can't deny it burns me up inside
i fan the flames to melt away my pride
do i want shelter from the rain
or the rain to wash me away?

CHORUS:
i need you, i need you, i need you
i need you, i need you, i need you
you're all i'm livin' for

i might sound like a fool
but i think i felt you moving closer to me
face to the ground to hide the fatal cut
i fight the weight, i feel you lift me up
you are the shelter from the rain
and the rain to wash me away

[CHORUS]
i need you, i need you, i need you
you're all i'm livin' for
(all i'm livin' for)
all i'm livin' for
(all i'm livin' for)
you're all i'm livin' for

face to the ground to hide the fatal cut
i fight the weight, i feel you lift me up
i can't deny it burns me up inside
i fan the flames to melt away my pride
i only had a second to spare
but all the time in the world to know you're there
you are the shelter from the rain
and the rain to wash me away

i need you, i need you, i need you
(all I'm livin' for)
i need you, i need you, i need you
(all i'm livin' for)
i need you, i need you, i need you
you're all i'm livin' for
(all i'm livin' for)
all i'm livin' for
(all i'm livin' for)
you're all i'm livin' for
(all i'm livin' for)
all i'm livin' for
(all i'm livin' for)
you're all i'm livin' for

I like the songs of confession unto the Lord. We sang one tonight to closeout service.

Here I am, Lord
Here I am
I give all myself to you
Here I am

Here I am, Lord
Here I am
Let Your Spirit move through me
Here I am

The whole church joined together without musical instrumentation, and it was so beautiful and I felt His presence in the place. Simply awesome!

What do you mean by a "son of confession"? And how does this song fit that?
