Re: Where's the Christmas Thread?????
As I said earlier, there is absolutely no record that the Acts church gave the date of the birth of Jesus any attention. It was all about his resurrection from the dead.
I personally think that if the winter holidays were a day where trees are put up and lights and tinsel and glitter and gifts and whatever you want to do, are all done in the name of a winter holiday, it would be just like any other national holiday, just that, a holiday, and not a HOLYday. It would be a day like July 4th or any other national holiday.
But to take pagan traditions, and try to make them holy, that is abomination to the Lord.

You see, this is a very interesting statement which pretty much gets a lot of mileage. It is a Catholic saying which was used to incorporate all sorts of traditions into "Christianity." Jesus doesn't care if you honor His mother? After all, doesn't the scripture say "from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." Jesus doesn't care if we have pictures of Him, or statues of Him, because it really isn't the statue or idol but a remembrance, like a photo of a loved one. Someone special who had passed away, which causes you to remember them? When you have the Icon, or statue of Christ you have something to focus on while your are praying? Also, all those in a lost and dying world believe these pictures, icons, and statues are images of Jesus and it gives them hope? Jesus doesn't care, right?
Sis, you say Jesus doesn't care, and I'll play it safe and say He does.
He cares that we would rather silent night ourselves into a nostalgic coma while the world becomes more lost and dying. The Apostolic Pentecostal One God Jesus name Holy Ghost power beats any glass of eggnog with a crucifix swizzle stick.

Amen, Amen, and AMEN!!!!!

God began dealing with my heart during a Baptist Christmas play entitled, "Wise Men Still Seek Him."
As a sinner, where do you suggest I find my place in the Kingdom , unless there were some means to get me there, albeit a circuitous route, but a route nonetheless?
I have always thought it rather curious that you use the images of the most immoral people to make your points around here. Bill Murray? Seriously?

Bill Murray was the best STANDING OVATION ANIMATED GIF.
Sister, you can do better than attack a gif I have used.
Wise men do still seek him, but not once a year.
The most powerful thing about Charles Dickens Christmas Carol is that Charles Dickens goes out of his way to show the Celtic paganism which surrounds the event. The climax, is when Ebeneezer Scrooge clings to the cloak of the Grim Reaper after he realizes he is the dead man in the graveyard. His words to the angel of death is that HE PROMISES TO KEEP XMAS IN HIS HEART ALL THE YEAR LONG.
Charles Dickens understood the vast chasm between the haves and the have nots during his lifetime. While he was pretty much a creep himself he understood that Xmas wasn't the answer only once a year, but men needed to have a soul stirring experience to change their hearts and be the Christ all year round.

I doubt a lot of Christians believe Christmas is the answer once a year. We were very involved in the Catholic Church growing up. Our whole life centered around church. It was our life everyday. So, try not to belittle people who are on a personal journey and happen to find truth beginning somewhere else besides a Pentecostal altar.
