Using your logic, why not fly a Swastika flag over the Capital building too? Will it increase hate for Jews? Will taking it down decrease hate for Jews? No. It should not be up there because it's an affront to Jews.
Bad analogy. Hitler supported the Union in Mein Kampf, not the South. He understood that the South was fighting for decentralization, which as abhorrent to his dream of centralized power.

Sure about that, Prax? The Confederacy is dominating the conversation right now. Everyone, including Republicans, is jumping on the "BAN THE FLAG" bandwagon. And it's not just the flag, it's anything remotely related to the Confederacy.

Mitch McConnell has even released a statement demanding the Jefferson Davis statue currently residing in the Kentucky capitol building be removed and put in a museum instead.

What's next, are we going to rename every street, military base, school and any other building bearing the name of a Confederate?

Blaming the Confederacy on Roof's shooting is like blaming guns for killing people. It's stupid. And it's a smokescreen and distraction from the real issue which were the medications this kid was on when he went on his rage.

"The Cultural Cleansing of the Southern States Begins"

Quote:
A full-fledged cultural cleansing of the Southern states is underway as lawmakers debate whether to remove Confederate flags and rename schools and parks named after Confederate war heroes.

There are also discussions in Washington, D.C. about removing Confederate-related statues from the U.S. Capitol — including a statue of Jefferson Davis, the former president of the Confederacy.
Quote:
*Tennessee lawmakers are demanding that a bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest be removed from the statehouse;

*Baltimore lawmakers want to rename Robert E. Lee Park;

*Dallas lawmakers are considering demands to rename Stonewall Jackson Elementary School;

*St. Louis lawmakers are debating over the future of a confederate statue in a city park;

*Commissioners in Hillsborough, North Carolina are debating whether to remove the words “Confederate Memorial” from a Confederate memorial.

*The Memphis City Council voted in 2013 to rename three parks – Confederate Park, Jefferson Davis Park and Nathan Bedford Forrest Park.
Quote:
It won’t be too long before they start renaming cities and towns and counties named after Confederates. And I reckon it’s only a matter of time before they bulldoze the Confederate grave yards and war memorials too.

[B]Maybe we can just pretend the Civil War never happened.[/B

Re: The Charleston problem taken care of.

So glad Amazon is principled enough to remove all things concerning the confederate flag, as it represents a bygone era of racial atrocities and they now have purged themselves of contributing to that sort of offensive history.

But for the good news!!

One can still purchase memorabilia of a more harmonious time where inequalities and death was far removed.

So glad Amazon still sells Nazi memorabilia and not confederate memorabilia.

Re: The Charleston problem taken care of.

I don't see the confederate flag as representing racism. However, I do see it as representing treason. I don't have any issue with individuals who wants to fly it, but no state government should ever fly the flag that represents a very dark chapter in our nation's history.

The issue is Roof was on the same type of mood-altering medication which every single other mass shooter has been taking.

But Pharma likes that you're more upset about the dumb flag than its murder meds.
I read that other thread. The question I would ask is, how many people who take those drugs, have *NEVER* done anything violent. I imagine the number is far higher than those who have. I'm not saying the drugs don't play a part, but I'd argue that certain people are simply more reactive to their affects than most. Those people should not have been put on them, but that doesn't mean those drugs are evil and will cause violence.
