Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
Holy Uncreated One
Your beauty fills the skies
But the glory of Your majesty
Is the mercy in Your eyes
Worthy Uncreated One
From heaven to earth come down
You laid aside Your royalty
To wear the sinner's crown
O Great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down
Yours magnified
O Great God, be lifted high
There is none like You
Jesus, Savior, God's own son
Risen, reigning Lord
Sustainer of the Universe
By the power of Your word
And when we see Your matchless face
In speechless awe we'll stand
And there we'll bow with grateful hearts
Unto the Great I am

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
We have nothing to give
That didn't first come from Your hands
We have nothing to offer You
Which You did not provide
Every good, perfect gift comes from
Your kind and gracious heart
And all we do is give back to You
What always has been Yours
Lord, we're breathing the breath
That You gave us to breath
To worship You, to worship You
And we're singing these songs
With the very same breath
To worship You, to worship You
Who has given to You
That it should be paid back to him?
Who has given to You
As if You needed anything?
From You, and to You, and through You
Come all things, O Lord
And all we do is give back to You
What always has been Yours
We are breathing the breath
That You gave us to breath

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
For edification/faith building:
VERSE 1:
This is my prayer in the desert
When all that's within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides
VERSE 2:
This is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flame
CHORUS:
I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
VERSE 3:
This is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on it's way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I'll stand
CHORUS:
I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
BRIDGE:
All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship (x4)
CHORUS:
I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here (x2)
VERSE 4:
This is my prayer in the harvest
When favour and providence flow
I know I'm filled to be emptied again
The seed I've received I will sow

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
"Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)"
You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand
And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine
Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now
So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine
[6x]
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
Oh, Jesus, you're my God!
I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
That last one... it's a beautiful piece of poetry but... what is it really saying? I'm not sure how to explain it, but it seems... vacuous? I mean that the words are nicely done from a rhetorical pov (I teach classical rhetoric) it's got some pathos going there but what concretely is it saying? What is in the song that people can CONCRETELY relate to?
"Take me deeper than my feet could ever take me"... what exactly does that mean? How? In what way?
"Jesus hold my hand" as a phrase evokes recognition in everyone's mind, because everyone can relate to having someone hold their hand. This evokes ideas of a dad holding a child's hand helping them walk, or a friend holding one's hand as a sign of companionship and fellowship, or of a stronger holding the hand of a weaker helping them navigate difficulties. But walking on water is an abstract concept that has ONLY the story of Peter as a reference point. Sure we can appreciate the metaphor, God taking us into the realm of the impossible, but it just doesn't RESONATE with human experience in a CONCRETE way. I'm sure I muddled what I was trying to say lol. And again it's not a bad piece of lyric, just... kind of like ice cream vs steak and potatoes. Ice cream tastes great, and has some intrinsic worth. But steak and taters stick to your ribs, know what I mean?
The other three are pretty good lyrically. Especially the offering song.

I think it was based on the story where Jesus called Peter to walk on water.

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
Sorry I kinda skimmed through your post and didn't read the part where you mentioned Peter. LOL. My bad. I searched for the song story and found this:

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
I read and re-read your last post and my response would be:
When I first heard this song, it was Peter's story that first came to mind and as I reviewed the lyrics in that context, I gained a deeper appreciation of the song.
Not sure if you meant that the song was seemingly empty or lacking in substance. For me it was very meaningful and beautiful. It may not be something that unbelievers can easily relate to unless you explain it to them, but once you show them Peter's story and have them read the lyrics again in that context, I'm pretty confident they can grasp what it is saying.

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
Are there any modern Oneness songs that actually teach Oneness doctrine?
Speaking of which, do ya'll agree that church music should be written with a specific goal in mind, one of which is to teach sound doctrine? I dont mean "just not be contraryto soud doctrine" but to actually assist in discipleship by teaching?
Meanwhile heres a long but good read for pastors, musicians, and worship leaders:

Re: Modern pentecostal church music and Oneness
This one is pretty popular but I don't know if you would consider it "Oneness."
HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD
The splendor of a king
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice
He wraps Himself in light,
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at His voice
Trembles at His voice
How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Age to age He stands
And time is in His hands
Beginning and the end
Beginning and the end
The Godhead Three in One
Father, Spirit, Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb
How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God
Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God
Name above all names
You're worthy of all praise
And my heart will sing
How great is our God
[3x]
How great is our God – sing with me
How great is our God – and all will see
How great, how great is our God
