I wonder than, why do military troops carry rifles and sidearms if they are so dang ineffective as you say they are?

Which is EXACTLY the reason why I said we should be armed similar to the military. What they have access to, is what we should have access to.
That's why the 2nd Amendment was written with the words, '...shall not be infringed'. We've already allowed enough infringement to make us equivalent to using pitchforks against those fully-automatic weapons.

My AR 15 is same weapon with the same number of rounds that our military uses so if they are effective for the military they will be effective for me.
Why do I "need" a semi automatic rifle with 30 round capacity magazines? There are several scenarios.
- If there is a breakdown of society either short term or long term for any reason (terrorist attack, natural disaster, etc) and I am one of the few people smart enough to have prepared with long term emergency food, etc for my family I will most likely be the target of desperate or ruthless people who did not. If I have a gang of a dozen people trying to invade my home or property having 30 rounds available in my rifle magazine could well mean the difference between protecting my family and dying.
- If because of some drastic breakdown as described above our Federal Government should fall and a dictator or foreign power take over I want there to be enough Americans with weapons to challenge that situation and restore democarcy

The Mrs., thank you for starting this thread. I haven't been commenting on it, but i have been reading it all the way thru. I'll be honest and tell you that there is much that I disagree with. But I defend your rights to be wrong
I guess one of the things that I would say is that I have much more fear of someone (like one of my daycare kids) accidentally getting ahold of a gun if there is one in my house and accidentally hurting someone with it than I do of the government coming to take me away and me needing to defend myself or my family against them. Altho, frankly, under Obama I could see that happening much sooner than I could have in the past. I'm not ready to change my position YET, but I may have to start thinking a different way. We'll see..................

No worries Margie! The beauty of the Constitution is that we have that choice. That was my main purpose of posting what I did. We need to know what our Constitution is, and why we need to defend it. I've just had that thought running around in my head for so long, I was glad for the opportunity to express it.
And I totally understand where you're coming from. I used to not like the idea of guns in homes with small children either, but most gun owners are trained and responsible enough these days to keep everyone safe.
We don't have to own guns to support our Constitution or our 2nd Amendment right, but we do need to use our voice and our vote to protect the Supreme Law of our Land.
