Re: Prison Awaits Faithful Christians

Whoa there brother AB. Who pushed yo button?

Show us where any of us screamed and threw rocks at Joel Osteen? I simply asked a question, someone answered it for me and I read on wiki where he preached only once before he took pastorate of a very large church. What does the Bible say about Novices?
And WHO said anything about TD Jakes?

You are correct in I don't know anything about these preachers. I already said so. I also don't know for a fact that any of the preachers you spoke about are feeding the hungry and helping the poor. High profile megachurch pastors ARE under the limelight whether you like it or not. They are going to show to the people only what they want the people to see. It's just that way. They put themselves in that position when they started televising their services. People are going to have opinions about megachurch preachers whether you or I like it or not.

Why in the world in a country that has a church on almost every corner and tucked way into the woods in the country likewise, do we have to have high profile television preachers to feed the hungry? The local church is responsible for feeding local children, disabled adults, widows and elderly, but many of them do not do it. I do not know of a single UPC church in my entire region that actually has a benevolent fund in place for those. Instead, I heard it once preached that if a widow so much as has a nephew, let not the church be charged. (in taking care of her). We got too many welfare recipients sitting in the pews.

I am not UPCI. I left 20 years ago and studied the Bible leaning heavily on the Holy Ghost for understanding. I know when something is right or isn't right. So...be sure to get a smaller brush before you start painting everybody as an holier-than-thou UPC looking for fault in someone who is not like them. I've took many hits myself from UPC and believe me, I probably know as much Bible as you do and my husband knows a whole lot more than you do on your best day.

Re: Prison Awaits Faithful Christians

So... I joined this forum several years ago... had a peek and decided that there was a lot of disunity and unhappiness here and moved on... checked back a few times and found it pretty much the same... A lot like the real brick and mortar church... bitterness, back biting, etc.

So recently I've had another look... and you know what? Nothing's changed.

Do you realize that the section you are posting in is called 'Fellowship Hall' and subtitled 'the place to go for fellowship and fun'? Yet almost every thread here is provocative and many disintegrate into bickering and name calling in just a few posts...

So while we are all so holy we can not master koinonia or agape love. Did you miss that part that says that without love (yeah that patient, kind, blah, blah... stuff) you are a clanging gong?

Clang on brothers, but don't try to pretend that you are doing yourselves or anyone else any good. Thumbs up to those who at least admit that they do not know everything....

But NO - You won't deal with them - you want to throw your rocks at preachers that are working, praying, helping people, teaching, preaching, feeding, giving to the poor and feeding the hungry.

You have absolutely no idea who Joel Osteen is or what he does and who he helps. I guess he should have just said - let the church fold after Daddy John died and he could have gone to work for TBN or even CNN.
WHY do you guys have to do this. I hear it in every "Apostolic" Church I go to. WE ARE THE BEST - The TV Preachers are all going to hell and we hate Joel Osteen and even though TD Jakes baptises in the Name of Jesus, He is not of us so he is not good enough and he screams and carries on and lets put him and his bunch in hell too.
WE ARE THE BEST - THE HOLIEST - THE CHOSEN ONES!
Why don't you just preach what you believe and leave the others alone.
Joel Osteen and Bishop Jakes are easy targets for those in the cheap seats and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

I'm not sure how the post above is any different than what we do to each other... Just sayin!

Re: Prison Awaits Faithful Christians

One thing the church needs to do is recognize that sin is not an excuse to hurt people.

By hurt I mean hurt. Because that happens.

The reason gay people are looking for some kind of Human Rights declairation is because gay people are getting hurt by religious folk because the religious folk feel justified attacking the sinners.

That aint a WWJD moment.

homosexual sex is a sin. living an unrepentant life will send you to hell. We preach that. We teach that but we certainly should not be in the business of helping people in sin get to hell.

So, anyway, if you ever do end up in jail because of your faith, don't forget to rejoice. Matthew 5:11-12.
