Re: Acid reflux

Nexium does the job for me. If I happen to run out and don't take it for a couple of days, I pay for it! Prilosec helps, but not as much.

The other thing that no one has mentioned is to sleep in the recliner or to elevate the head of your bed for a while. Walt's doctor suggested that to us for him and it really seemed to help him alot.

Re: Acid reflux

Acid reflux can make you feel like your having a heart attack!! I used to be bothered with it alot. I take (generic) Zantac 150's....one every morning. It has helped me.

Re: Acid reflux

When one is eating low carb... after the third day... it's gone.

But... with the possibility that you aren't going to go low carb

Can you think of anything you are eating lately that you haven't eaten before or usually don't eat as much of? Different things affect us differently. Try and keep an account of what you had eaten recently when these episodes hit and you may nail down the culprit.

All of these medicines being suggested... Medicines that change the way your body creates acid will also change the way food is digested and can cause other problems.

When possible the best route is to seek sensible ways to locate and avoid the problem foods that are causing the issue.

Re: Acid reflux

Chewable calcium based antacids help me, but I have a very mild case. Stress is a big part of my problem, and certain foods don't help. Peanuts are my main culprit for some strange reason. Lack of sleep is another contributor for me, I think (which adds to my stress or is caused by it, depending on the situation).

Digging, you are totally right! (for me - I just saw friz's post!) I had lots of heartburn prior to eating lower carb/South Beach lifestyle. Now when I get it it's from the occasional meal when I throw caution to the wind.

Yes sir... and I still call it low carb but the South Beach thing is the way to go.

You consistently eat low carb foods and consistently stay away from bread, sugars, sugar alcohols, white flour, potatoes etc and yet you still have heartburn?

Re: Acid reflux

Well, I made it through the night without any major problems - but you know how you can feel that's it's about to start??

My lifestyle the last month has been a series of eating junk food, on the road a minimum of 12 hrs most days, sleeping in uncomfortable beds, eating fat-filled American food, etc - maybe when I get back "home" in a few days it will be better.

Thanks for all the suggestions - if nothing else, this has encouraged me to go ahead and lose more weight.

start of with an apple a day. Then consider digestive enzymes.
