Are you allowed to take a weapon like a gun or something in case of some wild animal trying to attack? Just wondering.
It is a federal park so unless your a ATF agent or something you cannot carry. However, I do not think there is anything against carrying pepper spray.

It only took about 3 hours to hike to our destination, but 5 or more to get out. What was also tough is that it was 27 degrees outside at 6 am at the trail head. But in the mid 80's by the time we got to the bottom! Very tricky to dress for.

I would recommend you or anyone going! Even if you don't feel you can hike a trail, it is worth it just to walk along the rim and stare while contemplating. The Canyon is unimaginably old and yet we (humans) have arrived on Earth at a time when most geologists feel it is at its ultimate peak for beauty.

We walked just over 12 miles. However in that 12 miles we walked DOWN over 5000 feet and of course up the same.

So are you back up and out of the canyon? What is the difference in elapsed time going down vs coming back?

To get back out, I think they took the elevator.
