I can agree with that and in most cases I think you are right as to why these types of statements are made.
However, don't you think that there is a danger in this? Example....a person is in a car wreck and dies. We say "God needed them in heaven and called them home" when in fact they were putting their make up on, shaving, or reading the newspaper while driving the car. So with this deceptive thinking with don't deal with my destruction is coming in people's lives, but end up just comforting ourselves.
For me, I would talk to my children and say, "Uncle George died in that crash because he was shaving and wasn't paying attention to what he did. If he would have only gotten up 5 minutes earlier he would still be with us. Your decision are important....blah, blah, blah.

Simply put, I believe God is in control of my life - including the moment of death. Not that he absolutely predestines and causes death, but he allows or does not allow. I find comfort in knowing he controls not only my destiny, but my journey.

Well yes and no. Some deaths are explainable and no doubt preventable, but then, some make little sense at all and seem like they are divinely orchestrated. I think it's better not to try and figure it all out - especially not at the time of bereavement. I am willing to leave it as God calling them home.
"it is appointed unto men once to die..." We all have an appointment with death, maybe we can tweak it and maybe not - but escape we will not (lest the end of time come first).

Okay...I can't argue with that. But my question was not "what is your belief" but what is your "believe based on."
Is it just your arbitrary view of life and what you concluded or are you basing it on scripture, a vision you had, something Grandpa George told you? What is the basis that brought you to this conclusion?

Well Glory, if I thought it was clearly addressed in scripture i would be posting those scriptures... I guess it mostly comes from real life experiences and finding the better ways to comfort those who mourn.
To be clear, I think scripture does teach our obligation to protect human life, so that rules out intentional stupidity and careless endangerment of lives - including our own. At the same time I think we have all been there... some of us got lucky, or perhaps it was not our time to go? I dunno.
