You have to seperate the political genius from the partisan political hack aspects of the man.
He got GWB elected twice during a pretty difficult time. that makes him a political genius.
that does not mean he is not a partisian republican willing to do what it takes to get republicans elected.
you can respect the first even if you dont respect the second....
I guess, but I sit and watch people play the "game" and it just infuriates me because of what is at stake. It seems to me that in their estimation nothing is more important than the political game. In my estimation there are many things more important and people better wake up.
When I hear him eloquently and logically call out the Democrats for doing something improper...then just as eloquently and "logically" defend the GOP for the same thing, it tends to make me respect him and his "opinion" less.

Stew, i get being unhappy with the whole political system because it has become toxic. both sides are playing an escalting game of gotcha. both sides are guilty.
Honestly I dont have the energy to be all up in arms about Karl Rove when there are Nancy Pelosi's and Barny Franks and Harry Ried's and John Murthas running around Washington....actually creating laws.....

True. Ferd, I have really enjoyed our discussions here. I am glad that the elections are about over because I was already about through with this. I just had something really rub me the wrong way (and that really doesn't happen often), but I'm going to step back a bit.
Take care bro and I'm still praying for your family.

I dont think people on public doll should be allowed to vote.
I would require (like the founders) that only people who own property be allowed to vote.
and YES! I might be for a poll tax!
Hows that for unconstitutional voter suppression? I am FOR IT!
and it comes back to two things, 1. as CC1 points out, democracy dies when people realize they can vote themselves largess from the public tresury. and 2. we live in a republic (or we should) not a pure democracy.
Ferd,
we live in a representative democracy.
I disagree with allowing only folks who are property owners the right to vote.
There are many hard working Americans who do not own property, who are guaranteed the right to vote-- and I am glad.
That is the America I know and love. An America where all men are created equal, regardless of their economic status, regardless of their opninions.

I am not. (1)The last thing we need is ignorant people who don't understand or follow issues to be voting only on the basis of a persons skin color or what they have been promised.
An ancient philosopher once said that Democracy would only last until the populous realized they could vote themselves the treasury.
I am afraid that is where we are at today. (2)We are at a time where people want something for nothing and if you promise them free health care, free college educations, etc they vote for you.
(3)If you vote you ought to at least have to make an effort to do it. That culls out those who should not be voting because they don't have a clue or care enough to invest time and energy in the issues and canidates.
(1) Wow.
(2) Sen. Obama isn't promising free health care or free education. He is promising it to be more affordable, an idea needed (and attractive) to more than just the ghetto dwellers.
(3) The reason the polls are open early is to give everyone the opportunity to make the effort to vote. What happens to the man who works shift work and can not make it to the polls 4 November?
Now, thanks to politicians more acquainted with the every day struggles of many working folks, people have the opportunity to make their voice heard in this country that we all call home.

Unless they make over 250K, then they are not equal and should be taxed more...
cute.
Our country has had a progressive tax system for a long, long time.
No one is being treated like or looked at as "less than" because they have to pay more taxes.

Repost:
Say the working people supported 55% of the population, and had to do so because they could never elect anyone to change things.
Obviously the 55% will grow, im sure you can see why.
Bad, because eventually there are not enough working people left to support the people who are too lazy to make their own way in life... why should one guy work hard to benefit the lazy guy next door? Eventually the worker will leave or stop working so hard...
