Somee day, maybe after the kids are gone and I convert one of their rooms to a music room, I might have room for an upright.

Re: Do You Have Gas ?

Hopefully at least one of your basses have flatwound strings.

Re: Do You Have Gas ?

An acoustic bass guitar is something I could use playing with bluegrassers.

One of my P Bass copies has flatwounds, and my four string fretless has black nylon tapewounds, which are kind of halfway between rounds and flats tonally.

Regarding acoustic bass guitars, they really still need some kind of amplification, if you are playing with anything more than a quiet fingerstyle guitarist. Multiple guitarists, using flatpicks, banjo, or fiddle, nobody will hear the bass, if you play an unamplified acoustic.

If you are playing with old fashion bluegrassers (no amps), an upright or a washtub is the way to go.

Re: Do You Have Gas ?

Some of the bluegrassers I play with tolerate electric bass,so some them of could handle an acoustic bass guitar plugged in.As a matter of fact at a fiddler's convention a banjo player asked me did I have my electric bass with me.
However some I play with prefer upright,a man I pick with owns an Engelhardt upright, that I play on when I do some picking at his place.
I'm doing some electric music in a three-piece setting that is electric guitar, electric bass and electric drums
