Re: Favorite/Least Favorite Songs to Sing in Churc
Least favorite is "I'm a Pentecostal". My favorite is everything but "I'm a Pentecostal"

"Devil Don't Want no Shouting Goin' On Here!"........ argh!!
I agree - "we don't care what the devil don't like!" so why sing about it??

I don't care for that song either, but can't quite put my finger on why.

Because it's bragging. It's all about 'me' and not Jesus. It's giving self the glory.

It does sound a bit like bragging...I wonder what those on the "outside" think of Pentecostals when they hear it.
I'M A PENTECOSTAL LYRICS (written by Nathaniel Haney):
Verse 1:
We've Been Known to get wild let our hair hang down drink till we get merry rolling on the ground we cranked up the music we danced all around shouting hallelujah as his glory came down its just our style the way we do our thing we're the Pentecostals baptized in Jesus' name.
Choirs:
I'm a Pentecostal i am not ashamed just read the book of acts we are still the same we worship only one God Jesus is his name we are Apostolic in every way.
Verse 2:
Well some think we're crazy others think we're strange but when i got this holy ghost i could not contain its more exciting then a party higher than a drug its the greatest feeling being washed in his blood so if your tired of tradition religions done you wrong you're feeling dry and empty no longer have a song.
Verse 3:
Well the story is not over things for you can change you'll feel the fire burning as the sprit fans the flame there's millions who have come and millions on the way they're leaving there dead churches for this Pentecostal faith theres a hunger in the world that gets stronger every day they're crying out for Pentecost and that is why i say

See just reading this makes my skin crawl. Thing is that it has a catchy tune, but a horrible message, IMO. My issue is like what was said by AQP because it is ALL about bragging about "me" and not He!

Re: Favorite/Least Favorite Songs to Sing in Churc
The song isn't that bad, IMO--it's just one that goes in the "fun" category, and I wouldn't consider it to be uplifting for a normal church service with a mixed crowd. Singing it where there are only other Pentecostals--no biggie. Definitely not my favorite song, but I can see how some people would identify with it. To each their own.
I'm not of the opinion that all songs need to be "vertical"; I do think there's a time and place for everything, including the fun stuff.

It kind of goes along with that one song that goes "I'm a one God, Apostolic, tongue talking, holy rolling, born again, heaven bound believer in Jesus' Name...." Same concept anyways.
The thing is...I've watched videos of this song being done in church services, and the place goes nuts. I'm sure it wasn't just Pentecostals in that setting....that's why I wonder what they think of it...and of us.
I'm sure the writer meant well though.

Well...I think that sometimes we think worse of each other than secular people do. They don't always have the framework--it's just another "religious" song.
Most songwriters write from some emotional place or experience, so from that perspective, I think we can understand how songs like these come to be. I don't like to make it anymore deep than it is; people are just people and they jot down words that express their feelings or thoughts.
Sometimes I think we underestimate God's ability to touch people's hearts through our ignorance or feeble attempts at expression, and sometimes the things we think are the most "foolish" may be the very thing that tugs at a sinner's heartstrings. In the meantime, the song or sermon or testimony that spoke volumes to us might fly right over their head! I don't think it's so necessary to spend a lot of time sanitizing everything.

Re: Favorite/Least Favorite Songs to Sing in Churc
My all time favorite is "Amazing Grace" I get the same feeling when I hear it as i get when I hear "The National Anthem." My least favorite song is almost any 7/11 song.
Someone counted a phrase being repeated well over 200 times in a certain song. I think some songs have no depth because the writers have no depth. I'm not talking about fun songs I'm talking about supposed to be praise and worship songs.
