I had a grandmother like that. When she made chili, she thought that putting together tomatoes, tomato sauce, red kidney beans and ground beef equaled chili. NO chili powder, salt, pepper, cumin, onions, peppers - NOTHING!!! It was awful!!!

I remember the first time I was ever served this "hamburger soup" under the nome de guerre of "Chili." What a wretched surprise. It even had macaroni in it!
I was a guest at a school friend's house, so I suffered in silence. They were Assembly of God - I wonder if that's what gave me a bad taste for the trinity?

I wouldn't even call it 'hamburger soup' bro. I'd call it 'ground beef soup'. Even less appetizing.

Sounds like my moms cooking. Can barely stand it and never did like it. There has not been a dish yet that she wasn't able to "bland" up.
