Blacks and the UPCI

Hey what do you think about this comment /joke Pastor Sam Emory made at The Rock Church while preaching. He says the joke in the first minute and a half of the broadcast.

Instead of Holy Laughter we "jerk and quake and quicken" when the power of God falls in our services (I'm Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ). Currently my organization is NOT progressive at all, and its only a minority of us who want to progress into something that’s more then an emotional satisfying church service. I am thinking about joining a UPCI church when I move back to ATLANTA but am extremely afraid of how I will be received.

First thing first, as a male, I enjoy wearing facial hair. Can someone explain to me the "no facial hair" rule? The African American church has never had a problem with facial hair and well, I just don’t get it.

Next, I have 2 TV's! What in the world am I going to do with them if I join the UPCI. Sell them? Throw it away? And uh, after I do that, what are my alternatives for no longer watching TV? I have no problem with the tube, since I am Holy Ghost filled, I allow the Spirit of God to tell me what’s right and wrong to watch.

Finally, the black apostolic church has a misconception that the UPCI is a racist organization. Help me understand if this is true or not. How will I be received as a black male. I have a calling on my life and plan on getting ordained if I come over. I believe in wearing clergy collars and robes when I preach. (side bar). Uh, help me understand why I don’t see any African Americans in upper clergy positions in the organization.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I genuinely have a concern and just want to know first hand from people who might already be a part of this organization.

I thought it was a pretty good example of the point he was trying to make! They didn't get the "heart" of it!

What did you think about him saying "get your rear in gear?"

Where to begin PH .... w/ your post above .... let's start w/ the assertion that the Great Commission does not mandate preaching ...

you aware that it is found in the other gospels too... Mark and Luke. It is also elaborated further by Christ's words, and penned by Luke, in Acts 1:8.

Mark 16:15

15He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

Luke 24:47
47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Acts 1:8

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

The mandate in these Great commission verses is to:

1. to make disciples ...[Matheteuo] ....

2.to teach .... [didasko]

3. to preach/proclaim [Kerusso]

4. and to be a witness [Martus]

The verses in Luke and Acts are parallels ... and we know the promise endued on the believers to testify/preach/teach/witness was for both male and females ....

Women are called, empowered and mandated to proclaim/preach, witness, teach and make disciples.

Unless you disagree w/ Jesus.

Same way I felt when I heard a sermon entitled "Get your BEHIND to this Altar" I LOVE IT!

Preachers need to preach in their personality not someone elses. Just be real.

Dan in the passages you cited where and who are the women who were commissioned I must be overlooking it?

:et's use your it was just for them argument and test it.

....The promise for power to testify was just for the 12 disciples, Elder ??

... was the instruction to just the 12 ... and not for us males today?

they were instructed to preach unto the ends of the earth .... did they obey the commandment as you claim they were the only one's commissioned ...when did Peter go to Peru?

The commandments in these passages are for all his disciples ... male and female ... yesterday and today ... your argument is logically and theologically HOLEY.
