I think you hit upon the problem Prax. They were privy to much of what goes on district-wide which included all the terrible problems and why the people had them. For the most part we really were bubble-wrapped. I think in their minds they were setting up these 'guidelines' to 'protect', not harm. Unfortunately, it backfired. Good reason to teach a principle, not a set of rules/guidelines.

Yes, it's so inconsiderate to interrupt someone when they are praying. I remember the one time he did pray for me, I walked up to the front of the church just sobbing...I needed something from God...I was desperate! He asked me what I needed and I responded that I did not know...he prayed for me, but it very much half-hearted.

We we so shocked when he asked what is it we like to do with each other (sexually). We repectfully decline to answer the question, and quickly dimissed ourselves from the meeting because I was on the verge of declaring him a pervert.

One church rule was also, if a married couple stays home on a church night and have any kind of sexual relations it would be considered Lust because it is a church night and therefore a sin.
Why did you stop short...isn't it interesting how we will tolerate such things out of politeness....I was so ignorant about things I would have probably told him....I was very naive about what a pastor should or should not do(and I am no spring chicken)...but I prayed always for God to show me the way...and lead me to truth...and He did!

Well here is one more...

They did not believe in kids playing....tooo much! Work work work....and then work somemore! I mean I agree kids need structure and should have chores and keep up there own rooms, help with house work, dinner, dishes...I did and it taught me well...but I was also allowed to play...of course I got in trouble from time to time...but mostly just a kid!
