I don't believe Epley is preaching doctrine in having a set standard for his church. Apparently his church respects his teachings because they continue coming to every service!

I have a work standard at my job. No teaching is involved, but I better obey the standard or I can't work for them.

If Epley has a standard for people in his church in order to be used, that's his right as pastor. No teaching is involved, but if they want to be used, they have to obey the standard. It's that simple.
