That does not play well with many people of many races, but particularly black people of all political, cultural, and moral views. I don't see the point of party voices gratuitously playing into this view of the right.

Those statements are getting a lot of attention now.
Regardless of intent, certain words shouldn't be used when refering to a black man, Boy and the N word.

Certainly not by the most influential voices in a group who is already accused (deservedly or not) of having hidden racist angst and motivation. Again it goes back to unnecessarily putting black conservatives and others in a position to have to defend or deal with this sort of thing when arguing agaist the perception.

Ain't that the truth. And those words were being used long before there were any rappers.

Wow.
The point was made by Renda that the use of "boy" didn't have to refer to the "N" word, that it was only a derogatory term. But, my husband is saying that if you use the word "boy", in anger, toward a black, you are probably wanting to use the "N" word.

Second point is that Rush never used "boy" alone. He said, "little boy" and "man-child". That is not in the same context as using the derogatory term "boy" toward Obama.

Really? Odd. I've heard them use the N word to each other.

*sigh*

Is there some place we could purchase a list of the words that we aren't allowed to say? I'd be willing to pay for it if I thought it would help us circumvent the mine field of things that offend people.

I use the term boy all the time. Whoda thunk it.

Short answer, "No."

Now Rush knew his statement was loaded and, staying true to form, ran full-sprint into the briar patch in this case.

What I find, honestly, is theat many white "conservatives" are completely out of touch when it comes to matters of race and civility in America.

It's a non-issue for them.

Some have one or a few token friends who are non-white-- of course they think EXACTLY like them or there would be no room for them at all in their lives.

However, I am convinced that the "right's" inability to come across as civil when it comes to matters of race is simply their lack of exposure to non-whites who don't think like them.

D4T,

You're not that underexposed! I know you're not!

You know the implications of that statement.
