If there was manuscript evidence of the Book of Matthew in Hebrew, that would change everything.

But there is none. They are all Greek.

There possibly was a Gospel of the Nazarenes, which might be a Hebrew Matthew book of some sort, circulating at the same time as the Gospel of Matthew. This is the gist of the Jerome report. Also the two had different material. The only one that survives today is the Gospel of Matthew. Linguistically, our Matthew is not translation Greek. (However, our Mark linguistically does give indications of being translated from a Latin original.)

The issue is not what might have existed at one time. The issue is what is the preserved scripture. That is our Greek canonical Matthew, which also exists, very for verse, in the Latin and Syriac and other languages.

There is no issue here.

Steven is right. We can only translate from manuscripts we have in our hands. We cannot translate documents that no longer exist.

We have searched extensively and now there are 59 gospels of Matthew without the Trinitarian text at chapter 28:19

and probably 60 sometime this year.

The few available Hebrew manuscripts were destroyed or disappeared, but there is evidence of their existence.
