With so many in the race, that didn't matter. When they dropped out, it did, and Trump couldn't get over 44%.

Re: Unbound: The Conscience of a Republican Delega
By the way u just explained why trump only got 44%. There were to many candidates in at the beginning splitting all the votes
Given this 44% is impressive

The 44% is AFTER everyone dropped out. That's not a majority. And many were not Republicans.

Romney won 48%, still not a majority. Correction - the 48% was for the General Election.
Romney received 52.13% for the Primary in 2012.

He should have had a huge uptick toward the end, but he didn't - is the point. Remember those HUGE crowds? LOL! These people were coming to see him, but they weren't necessarily voting.

Re: Unbound: The Conscience of a Republican Delega
Quote:
All delegates are unbound
These facts make clear that all delegates are completely unbound and free to vote their conscience on any and all matters that come before them, including the first ballot to decide the party’s nominee for president. No rule change is needed to unbind delegates, so long as the party stands by its 160-year history (aside from the blemish of 1976) protecting this important right.
Delegates to the 2016 Republican National Convention have been entrusted with the duty of selecting the party’s nominee to face Hillary Clinton in November (probably – the Democrats also have rules in place that protect the right of delegates to vote their consciences). They should carefully weigh their options, considering not only primary and caucus results but also who is best suited to represent Republican values and win in November.
Whomever emerges as the party’s nominee will be strengthened, not weakened, by demonstrating that they won the Republican nomination based not on coercion and intimidation, but instead on delegates freely and honestly concluding they should be the nominee.

Re: Unbound: The Conscience of a Republican Delega
Ummm, he did have a huge uptick at the end.
The last 16 state primaries, after May 3rd, he finished well over 50%.
link
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Result...rimaries,_2016
and he actually had 44.96%, so it would be 45%.

Re: Unbound: The Conscience of a Republican Delega
PO - help me understand this.
In every state that I have lived in and voted for POTUS in, the primary ballot has always showed the delegates under the name of the candidate that they represented. Thus, you were actually voting for the delegates to the convention, not the candidate.
But, they were representing the candidate on the ballot.
I am assuming that different states have different processes?
Because if I voted for a delegate under a candidate, then that delegate won, but the delegate did not vote for that candidate at the convention, I would be very unhappy with that delegate and feel as though the will of the had been thwarted and my vote stolen.
