My pastor is always saying that he teaches what he learns through reading, studying, and prayer in the hopes that WE as a church grow and learn together. I admire him because often when teaching and talking about things we should do in our lives and in our walk with God he will admit that it is something he has struggled with in the past or is guilty of himself. He is a humble man.
BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!!!
OK, I couldn't resist
Seriouly Scotty I wish more that your pastor and your chruch could move HERE. My life is here, my family is here, my work is here... I am so sad (and more than a little ticked off) that I will probably not be able to continue in the faith I am in because men desiring power have pretty much wrecked it for me. But God always has a plan, whether I can see it today or not.
Please forgive me if I offended or hurt you in any way during this thread and please believe that my questions have always been sincere and I do not have a hidden agenda.
You have been a great balance throughout all of this. Thank you.
Exactly! What if Martin Luther had never done anything?
Then the Catholic church would have kept doing what it was doing, and nobody would ever be saved?
Quote:
What if Joseph had obeyed the laws concerning Mary and her being "pregnant" and had her put away, and listened to man's teachings, instead of God's commandments - what then?
Then at Christmas time, we'd have manger scenes that didn't include Joseph?

Bingo! I have said similar things in the past. I know a number of people who seemingly move every few years as the "Lord leads them" from church to church. I refuse to play that game.
Church is not the center of my faith, nor is it the primary thing in my livelihood, spirituality, or social life. Those things should be met first in home and family, not to forsake the assembly though....
BTW I agree that Scotty has brought needed balance to this thread. Thank you Scotty!

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths
Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
"It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves

Whoa there sista. You will always continue in the faith you are in whether you attend a UPC church or not. Leaving UPC doesn't mean you leave behind what you believe. It just means that you are no longer under the pastor rules.
But...you will be able to live your biblical convictions without interference from man.
Church is not the center of my faith, nor is it the primary thing in my livelihood, spirituality, or social life. Those things should be met first in home and family, not to forsake the assembly though....
Exactly. I have a wonderful, loving, caring and Godly church family. But I am the husband and father of my home. My home and my family will do all we can to live by the Word of God. Many times someone in the church has taught or told my daughters something that they then questioned me with. We get together, study the scripture, I will tell them what I believe (even if it contradicts what they were told) then I will push them to continue to study His Word on the matter and seek Him in prayer to be convicted of the answer.
The results are always mixed. Sometimes they come back and agree with me. Sometimes their study leads to more questions which lead to more family bible study and prayer. And sometimes they come back and have told me that they understand my point of view and are not sure if they agree with the person at church, but feel convicted to practice what they were told anyway. Either way, the result is they learn to seek His will for them using His Word, His Holy Spirit within them, and prayer. Most of the time it lines up with what is preached in our church and what I believe. I am not ignorant enough to write that off as coincedence.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
Laundry lists tend to prevent anyone from measuring up.
start your own church. then you can be disgruntled with yourself instead of some other poor guy just trying to get people saved.
lol, just when it was lookin this thread was goin to die down.

Have you ever considered Buddhism? I hear it is rather peaceful.....
If your well off enough financially you can try out Scientology.
For pure uniqueness nothing trumps the Church of the Fonz. All the wisdom of Arthur Fonzarelli wrapped up in an easy to consume religion. Although they even have their own internal controversies such as whether "The Lost Book of Chuck Part 1 and 2" should be included in official canon.
